No, no, NO! Spey Casting is totally different. These long 2-handed fly rods were developed by Salmon fishers on the Rivers of Scotland and the British Isles to allow a very long cast where there is little room for a backcast. Also, flies, leaders and lines were developed to allow for this technique. The name "Spey" denotes one of the rivers on which it was developed (incidentally, also the home of some of the finest Single-Malt Scotch Whisky!) Use of this old technique was picked up by west coast anglers here, and it has since spread its magic elsewhere! So, it's a flyfishing technique. It bears NO relationship whatsoever to centerpin fishing, at least the way it is practiced here locally! BobK |
