First attempt

Got blanked today on American Lake. Don't think I posted that I finally broke down and bought a rig. Cabelas had them on sale last week and it feels good. Don't remember the rod but the reel is a ross. Anyway, tried late this afternoon with no takers. Saw alot of perch striking the top but they didn't even what my fly. Maybe I should have switched it up a little. Maybe I;ll try again next weekend.

Re: First attempt

Why don't you stop by the WTU on Tuesdays if you can. Our Project Healing Waters isn't just about combat wounded soldiers (though it's our focus now). Like we say "Helping those that served". So it's open to all military, current and retired who need to cleanse their souls too. So if you want to learn how to tie and also learn how to cast that rod better, head over there. We start at 1300 and usually go until 1700 (and the more guys we have, the longer we run). I know they do small outings at American Lake as well, and a lake on base I do believe. They could help you out on the learning curve.

Re: First attempt

Jerry, thanks for the link to Project Healing Waters. Just sent off an e-mail to the fellow listed for Oregon. Haven't heard of the organization being active in my area but we do have a large VA facility just north of Medford.

Not to mention a HUGE active fly fishing group in the immediate area.

Re: First attempt

Chuck Tye, who is a friend of mine, is the admin for the NW. He may have a unit in the immediate area. I do believe there is a PHW in Oregon, but somewhere near Portland though. If you don't hear anything, let me know and I'll talk to Chuck.

The Portland area wouldn't surprise me. No joy on a response to my e-mail, but it is a holiday weekend.

To assure he actually got same, would you be so kind to pass on my question/e-mail address.
