I am a big fan of Browning. I have not shot the X bolt that came out a couple years ago. I am very familiar with the A bolt style. I am looking to buy a new Elk rifle this year. Is it worth spending the extra couple hundred bucks on the X instead of the A? Thanks. |

I've not shot the X-bolt. I have the .300 win mag in the A-bolt with the BOSS. It's mainly for E. Montana prairie mule deer. It shoots a good group.

From what I hear the x bolt has now replaced the A bolt. A buddy of mine is a browning freak, and learned this from his FFl dealer Uncle. later Ryan |

Tally, you shouldn't have any problem shooting Mulies with a group like that. The BOSS system does make a difference. I opted not to get it on my 7MM A Bolt, and I probably should have. Elk, Browning still has the A and the X listed on their site with the '09 prices. It would make sense to phase out the A if the X is a lot better. I am just cautious of buying something that is new to the market when the A bolt platform has been tried and true for a very long time now. |

The BOSS is LOUD. I have to wear ear plugs even in the field. Here the buck my son shot at 400yards with the .300 ![]() I'm sure any Browning is going to be a good choice. |
