surf fishing for steel
|
|
I have never tried surf fishing for steelhead and would really like to give it a try. All I really need to know is the rigging and bait used. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jordan

This post is a bit late but seen that no one responded to ya. Just run a slip rig with a pyramid sinker (1/2oz-3oz), leader from 8" to 3 feet depending on surf conditions. Best time to be out there is when you have some wave action, flat days are usually (not always)slow. Pink spawn bags around the size of a quarter with floats in them seem to be the ticket most days.

Missed this post sorry, looks like steeliefreak gave a good response per my information, I am a fly guy that will fish the surf at certain times for steelhead and salmon.
Used to do a lot of lure chuckhing from the Michigan piers and beaches 20+ years ago.
Bunch of fellows fish bait fish and worm off a bobber set up also on the piers any way.

Yeah if alwives are available they are usually the way to go, I have also seen hardware guys do a number on the bait guys on skams a number of times. It just depends on the time of year for your methods but these methods should get you started.
Hey Black Ghost, are you from MI? I live in Grand Rapids.
