Milwaukee area lakes

Fished Pewaukee Lake Tuesday morning....very slow, which is what we expected from reports. Only caught a few panfish while drifting and casting various lures.

Spent Wednesday and Thursday mornings out on the water on guided trip purchased via Ebay. Target was musky....again, reports not encouraging, but ya do-what-ya-gotta-do. Wednesday fished Oconomowoc Lake with no success. Still had a good time on the water and learned some things about a fishery I was unfamiliar with. Today [Thursday] we decided to hit Fowler Lake and that was a real treat. On the water at 0500 and off by 1000. For a relatively small lake [approx 20 acres?] it apparently has alot to offer...pan fish SM/LM bass, walleye, northerns and some good sized musky. We managed to catch a couple small northerns, two bass, and within a period of about 30-45 minutes [around 0800] got visits from 3 musky in the 35-45 inch range - two were follow ups to the boat that we couldn't entice into a strike, and the last was hooked and brought to the boat but got loose within about 10-feet of the net. Life is good.

Way to go Dean! Little different area, but I will be fishing Devils lake out of Grand Forks ND for walleye with a coworker next week. I am going up there on business, and will be spending evenings fishing. Am told that there are quality Northern Pike in that lake as well.

Al, you should have a good time at Devil's Lake - top notch perch and walleye fishing from what I've heard.

Pewaukee is a hot musky lake especially later in the fall.

Its been a very hot and dry summer out here this year fishing has been off the last two months.

Well it finally cooled down here into the 70s the last few days and we now have rain thunderstorms and good old rainy full days again, rivers are on the rise and everything is turning green again.

Re: Milwaukee area lakes

Well, Devil's lake must be great fishing, because as bad as the conditions were, we still managed to scratch up some walleye and white bass(?). 3-6" of rain and high winds in the area the day before we went didn't help. The wind was still blowing the day that we were there, and made it interesting fishing with leeches behind bottom walkers (is that the right name?). We caught 7 walleye and 4 white bass in the 3 hours or so that we fished. Thunderstorms rolled in and that was it. Tell you what, walleye are ugly, and they don't fight a lick, but you won't see me passing up any opportunities to fish for them cause fresh walleye is gooooooood!!
