In light of the recent "discussion" about our military folks, I think I need to stand up and honor all of you on this board who have worn boots in front of Rocklizard, TexMojo, TOPCOP, DaBrow and myself. I hope I did not omit anyone who is still on active duty. If I did call me out! There are many retired HEROS here, Born2fish, vietnamvet2tours (speaks for itself!) Desertdog, caveman, navigator, our Fire department folks, police officers, etc. Purple Hearts have priority, retired or not (hear me Tim?) If you were discharged due to wounds, you are at the top of the list. Here is the deal: Any retired service member with a DD214 is welcome at my home for a weekend on PT-my wooldridge sled- (sit down, hold on and shut up) or scarface, the driftboat. We will fish any local river on my dime and I will invite an active duty servicemember to join us. I will provide all lodging, tackle and food. You bring your booze of choice if you wish. I'm still active duty so leave any non- prescription meds at home. This ESPECIALLY applies to those who may have been discharged/retired due to wounds received. Thank you all for leading the way! I salute you!

DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY
you know who said that and engrained it in our hearts?
GEN D.D Eisenhower, I have the book and will elaborate later ('cause I can't remember the exact quote at this hour), but it was at a West Point Graduation where he was the graduation speaker.

I fit the bill, but I won't do it unless I can pay. Besides, you'll have to run the boat with your head out over the side, as I always eat a few cans of Stag chili just before a boat trip. Keeps the mosquitos away!

I know a lot of folks dont consider USCG a service, but there are a few of us running around the board. On behalf of us all, I would like to thank all our vets here. They certainly are not told enough. Thank you for your sacrifice.

Pug Of course your service counts.. CG kids are some of my favorite heros. There is no more beautiful site than some Blaze Orange coming over the horizon when things go to hell in a handbasket.
Thanks for your service.
Mike.. I have collected on your offer many times but stand ready to assit you in this endeavor when ever I can.

This is a great thing Mike. I may be calling on you when I need a boat for some of my guys at the WTB. We may need a guy on the sticks for a couple outings, and maybe a jet. I'll let you know.

Alright, I wasn't trying to stir the pot there. Most of what you here of the "Coast Guard ain't no service" jive comes from the guys that are fresh out of boot or still in the first tour.
I a getting transferred soon but maybe I will be able to take you up on one of those boat rides one of these days in the near future.

Pug, there are many times I think back and kind of wish I went into the CG. Been in the Army now for 22 years so I think its too late to change now, but if I was 19 again. I only say that because I love the water and being near the water.

that is a pretty common thing to hear as a coastie. You always see people come from other services to the CG. I know only one that has left to go to another. That should tell you everything you need to know. No offense. I know that there are some guys that love their jobs.

Good on you fishy! FWIW, fisharima is a guy (actually his wife posting) that I served with back in the 80's. He is a Nam vet and we have fished the Smith River down in CA many, many times. I meet George and Laura down there for every Smith tilla, one that Desertdog came to last year. Different thread. George was one of the lucky ones that came back in one piece. Agent Orange is now in question due to health issues.

Geez, I had to decipher that. Daughter's Mom's dad= your daughter's maternal grandfather? I'm game. A few guys I'd like to see come along, all but one I have fished with. DesertDog-fished Caveman-fished Bbob-fished----Purple Heart Vietvet2tours-not YET---Purple Heart Steelheaderr-fished---Purple Heart shutupandfish-he owns the other half of scarface, nuff said. fisharima-fished many many times Who did I omit? If I started the list of Active duty I'd be going on and on like the energizer bunny. Once again in the spirit of this thread, my hat is off to those of you who have lead the way. Jerry, as I sent you in a PM, pick those most worthy at the Warrior Transition Battalion. You are designated net biatch/deckhand/untangler/de-snagger/beer biatch. Or you can be the tiller monkey.
