Cowtilla Stories?????
      #62638 - 06/22/03 11:39 AM

Come on everyone brighten my day! Vacation has been cancelled for this summer and I need to hear some of what happened at the MadCow this weekend. Sure enjoyed fishing with Mr and Mrs BuxnDux on Friday evening, and Marty we are actually getting closer now to meeting each other! As for the moderator FJ the Low Holeing SOB, should be fired from anything to do with Fishin! Just kiddin, but he did interrupt the best trout fishing spot on the river. We had them trout dialed in!

Can't wait to hear the rest...................

Well...as for our team...on Saturday we had

"Captain Caveman", fondly known as "Cavey"

with his trusty sidekick

AuntyM.

Passengers included, The Brewer, The Pants and The 2 Princesses.

AuntyM had a brilliant showdown with a smolt. He was a frisky little bugger...and cute as a button!! She next hooked into a cutthroat trout, and boy did he put on an exciting fight! AuntyM put the muscles to the test and reeled his sorry butt up onto the bow. We sure are proud of her!

AuntyM had all of us onboard happy as a lark for her extraordinary success, but at the same time, jealous as heck! The next fight was another cutthroat trout, hooked by The Pants and reeled in by the littlest Princess.

Women 3....guys 0

The food was abundant and deliciously wonderful!

To list the highlights...Shrimp, Salmon, Sturgeon, Steelhead, Oysters, BBQ Ribs, homebrew, and to top it off...Smores around the campfire!

We had a great time and enjoyed meeting all of you.

I went there with my two boys and all had a great time. Hunter, age 7, got his first steelhead thanks to Gooose and Desert Dog. The highlight for Ryan, age 4, was burning marshmallows in the fire and sleeping outside in a tent in a sleeping bag.

I ate some great food, drank some great beer, and met some great people for the first time after talking with them for a few years over the boards.

Andy

Oh yeah, Marty, I have your eggs. Let me know how you want me to get them to you.

Well, for you who missed it ya missed a good time.

Was very enjoyable to meet a bunch of you who I have chatted with several times. Ya's some nice people.

My story is very a very good time. We met Rapid Robert at the ramp at 5:00ish and waited for somebody that did finally"no-show" and got a little behing the pack, that 35th water is tough!!!!

After several drifts we managed to end up with 4 landed and one lost. Boy, it was a biggun' that got tangled in some of that "hard-line" doc left in the hole. Doc, I'm lookin' fer ya!!!!!!!!

Now, back to fishin' We whooped on some mighty fine smolts and a few Cutthroats and 1 nice Bugle-Mouthed Trout. Nobody would take the hand-off so I had to fight the Bugle for several seconds and even take it off the hook by myself. My guide wouldn't even do it for me. There went his tip!!

It was nice to fish with Robert, Timber and bux-n-dux for the day. I thank you all for putting up with me and my "short leaders". Timber, thanks for tying them for me. ha

Ihadagoodtimew/u

BTW. Did anybody lose their bananas? It didn't work for us very good.

Had a great time and met some new faces to put to the names.
Fished with FS and Trailrat Sat morning and made the mistake of showing TR my zipper spot which was quickly brought up at the campfire, is nothing sacred?
BTW, Craven the pic was hilarious. We were on track with the fish and team lizard hooked its share of cutties as did most of the other boats.
Sunday....hmmm....sunday....dont remember much....woke up (late) puked, took the boat down with gooose and ron1 for one long drift, scraped bottom twice with kicker, took boat back up, hooked ron1 up with fishon grahn (thanks Mike) banged the sh!t out of my pump on "the corner", put boat up, puked again, and went to sleep.
Gooose and Ron1, I cant appologize enough, we will do it again soon, and this time we will do it right, again sorry.

All in all a great time with great food and great people, thanks for the good weekend and hope to do it again soon.

Now time for about 12 hours of sleep.

Hey I just wanted to tell u guys got some great pics of fish. Its good to know some people are getting into the fish on the Cowlitz. I'm new to the site so I'm still getting to know people on here. Hopefully by next year I'll know enough site members to tag along, thats if the cowtilla is a yearly thing. Read about great food, nice people and chrome fish what can be better than a weekend of that. By the way if anyone wants to know fishing was pretty good this weekend (just South of there) . Limited out today in 15mins. Hopefully I'll get my scanner fixed and download them.

Well, well well! Were do I start. First off, I would like to send my appreciation out to Fishdoc for hooking the wife and I up on Friday night. You sure went out of your way. Next would be too Bob (Rapid Robert) for allowing me to fish with him on Saturday. The same trip I would like to say thanks to Ischool4U for showing us how it was done and to Timber for showing me how to lose gear He wouldn't tie my gear for me but I think it was cause he was to busy tying his own

Now for Saturday night. Since I wasn't there I am sure there are some good stories that I need to hear. But maybe I do not want to hear them The Taker filled me in a few. A great big thank you goes out to WildOutdoorsman for taking my wife fishing Sunday morning. She had a really great time!

I met alot of cool people, it is always nice to faces and real names with the monikers!

Till next garage sale, ahh I mean tilla!

Was a fun time. Wasn't able to come down until late morning on Saturday, and had to leave early Sunday. But RG and I had alot of fun. Nice to see some old friends, and meet some friends that I only knew by a moniker.

Would've been nice to hang out more. The jigswap got a big FUBAR'd. Spent all day on the cooker (but better then lounging at home drugged up, well, let me think about that lol). But, next year hope to be actually able to fish, but still will run the cooker as well. LOL

Next year, somebody put an order for weather we had last cowtilla, ok???

Great time again good to see old friends and make some new ones. Thanks to Marsha for last minute boat rides, and to everyone for all the great food and entertainment, like the way Caveman spun the boat and I ended up in the lap of that young woman and FJ for throwing that wake on us so I got a bath. I could go on and on but heck we will just do it again soon... Don

I had a great time as usual.. Special thanks for the boat rides (fj, DD, Wildoutdoorsman) Another special thanks to group who helped load the large Yamaha into the gooose mobile. (bux, shrambo, rl, alex, dd, goose).... And another to everybody who helped in food, tents, fires, signs.

Had a really good time...

Enjoyed seeing some new faces and always a pleasure seeing the old friends again. Sure I will think of more after a solid sleep..... remind me to bring two tents so I can sleep away from the party and have a decoy.

Tyee Dog, you called my wife a young women ? Oops I'm in trouble again.

It was a blast good food, good company. Thanks Kelly and son for takeing me out Saturday. Glad I could keep the smolts of Fishon's hook long enough for him to hook that nice steelie.

AuntyM and Caveman Thanks for taking Aud and I on Sunday and making us feel welcome when we got there it was a blast and we are ready for the next one.

Also really good to meet Gooose and everyone else.

But I think we needed more beer.........

Oh by the way Rapid Robert, I talked with the wife (she was in the boat with AuntyM at the boat launch). Some how you managed to miss them.. Are we going to have to put a scope on that thing.

Well Bux
I had arranged for Friday off, which I was able to get. I woke up Fri morning with a Migraine, and a sinus thing going on,(good thing I had the day off) not the start I wanted !!).
As the morning progressed, so did my Migraine!
At that point I knew, It did not look good, and I did not feel like a 3 hr drive.I attempted cell communication to my rides, with no success. I called the motel where one of them was staying and passed along the info.
I wanted to go, and had the truck packed, but just did not feel to good!
I have some other personal issues which I will keep to myself, but also affected my decision to stay home!
Anyways, I felt a little better Sat morn, but still not enough to make the cruise. By Saturday late afternoon, I was jonesin to camp, and fish, but the Cow seemed way too far,so since the truck was already packed, I decided on a overnighter to the Upper Sky wilderness area.(much closer to home)
I set up camp, fished, took Smokey for a lesson on "swimmin in the current", I had him tied around my waste while fishing, and let him venture as I was, except he is slightly shorter than me, so he got better at swimming. Then I bagged the fishing, and just made it a swimmin lesson day for my dog.
I built a nice fire, cooked some grub, watched the glacier water roll down hill, then it started rainin hard, so moved to the tent, and watched a few dvd movies on the laptop, and munched out on brownies, cookies, and fell asleep with a wet dogs nose stuffed inside my sleeping bag with me.
I am bummed I did not make it, but that is just "life".
I am glad everyone had a good time, I knew Ya'All would!

98043 Thanks for the boat ride offer, I appreciate it, Fishon same deal, sorry I could not make it, fellas
Wildoutdoorsman,... You have a package in route

The weather sucked, I felt like crap, and I missed my favorite Flotilla, ah well, hopefully I will make the next one! Sorry I missed the new faces in the crowd, was looking forward to meeting and seeing everyone again.

I did one other Flotilla when I was sick,(Chehalis) and it was miserable, so decided to not repeat that feeling.

I STILL have a big 0, in case anyone is wonderin

Bama-
That sounds like a blast, I may not be able to make it out for the weekend fishery but could certainly make it up for the eve to b.s. and drink some beer... Let's try and plan on that, I'd love it. Do it sometime around mid-july when the river should be stuffed with fish...

Gooose pretty well summed it up!

Thank You 98043. Sweet ride! Kelly and Alex!Been a very long time since someone handed me a baited up rod and said "cast there" That was pretty cool. I will try and find some way to pay you back. Perhaps a little trolling on the Sound?

Good plan there Kalamabama. When? You will have to get some time off. Tell the Boss you have to "Guide a Party" Just don't tell him it's a party of 50 or so!

Wayne dear, I hope you realize how well liked you are and how much you were missed.

Most of my Cowtilla plans did not pan out. Millie was supposed to sniff out Marty's secret scents and bring them to me. I don't know what, if anything was discovered in his tent. If she found them, she did not bring them to me as instructed.

We set it up to get a free trip out of RR too. That also didn't work. Sorry about the pre-rigged chair Bob. Hope you didn't get hurt. Please don't sue me!

Fishing day one sucked but the company was great. We were very happy to steal Fish4steel away from TrailRat.

Fishing day two was just as The_Pants described, except for my pic she posted and how adorable and well behaved the princesses are.

Day three was interesting. BW and DolphinLady are as funny as The_Pants and Brewer! I think Tyeedog was equally entertained. No fish for us though!

(PS, Caveman either gets bunks and learns MY left or right, or a divorce)

SH69 and RG.... many thanks for cooking! So many new faces! The tan one on Schrambo was a welcome sight. Nice to meet Norm and so glad Cowlitzfisherman came by!

The guides Wildoutdoorsman, Scott and Rapid Robert (and we might as well include FJ and 98043 in that category), you guys are awesome for joining us! Some serious fish catching machines.

I know as my memory returns, I will realize I left out thank you's to many of you. Don't hate me. I truly appreciate you all.

And to all of you, thanks for not kicking Timber or peeing on the fire. Makes a much better event!

PS.... Osprey, you broke my heart.

being the most highly anticipated board member to show up, i must say it was very cool. everyone was very friendly and easy to talk with. the food was AWESOME!!!the homebrews were of very great quality. my banana bread top notch. thanks to marsha and mike for the boat offer and ride. we'll gettum next time. was able to talk to rr and apologize for a error on my part. learned that fs has a dealth grip handshake. dogfish's boys at the fire pit had brewer in tears. next time i'll bring a couple bridgeport kegs. had the pants in the boat keeping her freshly rigged was time consuming (caveman too) the icing on the cake was both spinning reels stayed together, no breakage. thanks to all for a wonderfull time and vittles.

I am bummed, that is my favorite Tilla!
Believe me, If I would have known I would be sitting home with a migraine, I would have just worked Friday!
I must be getting old and weak

I really wanted to meet the new folks, and my apologies to everyone, for not making it.

I will be around the home rivers, and local salt for a while, but hopefully can plan a road trip to the Cow, and my other favorite river by there.

I am hoping to fix my 0 this week, or at least try too.

A Skytilla may be forming...........Soon!!

O's no show...no call.
OK I'm all recovered now. What a great time!

Here are some shots I took.

Craven aboard Desert Dogs sweet ride.

98043 with his new sled. He was also kind enough to offer a ride to my dad so that I could take out Salmon Kat/fool out for the evening. Thanks again Kelly Not just for showing the old man a good time but also for the help with the future sled upgrade. Looks like GMS may be looking into something a little wider and longer in the future. My dads up front, Shrambo's covering his downriver side, 98's the tiller Ho and last but not least the most un-selfish bait biatch on the planet...his son who name fails me right now. Heard nothing but high praise about the young man. Cudo's to you Kelly for raising a fine son!

Anybody find that pot of gold?

Desert Dog testing his fillet in darkness skills.

Desert Dog putting the throttle down.

Cracker

Lets talk about some pranks.

Rocklizard was out fishing in his boat with FS and Trailrat. Rock happened to find the little house with the half moon door while on a relief mission. Being that all three have no true zippers themselves this was an opportunity they couldn't resist. They made a pact not to share...biatches. Funny how a good camp fire can just suck the zippers out of a person...right Trailrat? He just couldn't resist the temptation and totally spilled the beans. For awhile there I thought he was going to get a Rock upside the head.

So this one for you Dew!

FJ.....

Yeah, I sure seemed a little pissed at first that Shane let the cat out of the bag....but then I rememberd, he was in there for at least 20 minutes that morning so that hole was definately "fished out" with a limit of boneless brown trout. At least I got first "water"

ron1 and gooose you guys are class acts, thanks so much for understanding. I wasnt mad about not catching fish the only thing I was pissed about was letting you guys down. I WILL make it up to you guys

Yeah I guess I was a "bit" hungover on Sunday....it was all that peer pressure from FS, that guy is an animal, just kept shoving the bottle in my face

Hey the only person I told about the "Halfmoon Hole" was FJ, he told me he'd keep it on the downlow

Trust me that hole had been fished out when I got there, I don't think it was much of a secret

I had a great time this past weekend. It was fun seeing some old faces and some new ones.

Thanks Fish4Steel for understanding my oversleeping, and also for putting the first steelie in my boat. I always have a good time fishing with you and will miss you when your in Korea. But you can rest assured that I will be practicing my plugpulling techniques in your absence, so when you return I can put you onto some fish...

Rocklizard, thanks for the ride on Saturday morning. You didn't scare me once

Desertdog, again it was a pleasure fishing with you. You and Craven were great students during my "pull a steelie out of FJ's inside sleeper slot" lesson. I'm sorry to hear about your problems on Sunday. But hey just think about that ride back up river on Saturday night, perfection. I know that I'll remember that till I die...

Rapid Robert, Timber, and Skyguy I had a great time fishing with you guys on Sunday. Thanks for the ride and ribs Bob

"The people were nice and had a great time.
Got casting lessons from Marty and DesertDog and Wildoutdoorsman showed me the easier way to tie a knot...I would post a thankyou but really don't like doing that. So if you post again to something or your wife does. Put in a big thanks from me Ok."

Okay, the oysters are wearing off and my sensitivity is coming back. I would like to apologize to Alex4 for making poor comments. The mooning was not meant to be mean-spirited, I was just having fun.

Make sure you search well for they may be in places you wouldnt figure

Like my signature says-

Hope you enjoy your search..

I had a nice time with the kids! Brewer's girls were perfect little ladies, and Buxndux's kids were great as well.

Just in case you thought Ryan only napped in camp, here is a shot of a real party animal.

Kids will sleep anywhere.

I also got a shot of the dynamic duo with Hunter's first steelhead, thanks to Gooose and DesertDog.

Much appreciated folks, and I can say that I have more friends today than I had last week.

MadCow III is in the planning stages now......not sure if it will be in June. June isn't the fishiest month for that river but I'm not sure thats what this event should be about. July has potential but also realize that it also overlaps with potential other fisheries that would attract away. There's always a chance of a Lake Washington sockeye fishery in that month and I'm hitting that even if it means missing my own Flotilla. August is definitely out as its time for Hood Canal chinook and silvers. Willing though to hear ideas. Really June is the only month that works for me and the catching is not so important than the gathering....plus a large number of participants would be thre anyway.

Gooose thanks for putting this together again this year and thanks to all who showed up and provided the great food and time.

Want to thank Scott Aldich of Scotty's guide service for taking me and my friend Dale out fishing for 2 days. We had a great time and Scotty is a great guy to fish with. We put two in the boat on Saturday and went 4 for 5 on Sunday.

But as gooose pointed out, its not about just the fishing...its about meeting all the nice folks that show up.

Looking foward to next years event.

What a wonderful weekend. It was a pleasure to fish with so many friends. I enjoyed being part of Andy's son's first steely. gotta love them kids. Gooose thanks for the oysters.. they was great. thanks for the hats and Shirt Marty. FJ thanks so much for the boat ride and the lessons. I am sure I will be cathing more fish in the future. I am looking forward to the next madcowtilla when ever it is. Its not about the fish catchin.

The drive home was long, long, long. Lost track of the # of cat naps I had to take but know that an 11 hr drive took 17.

Sundays morning trip turned sour as I bent the prop on the kicker on a rock and the promptly sucked a rock into the pump followed by dual battery failure. Sled became driftboat and we made for Mission luanch and had to thumb a ride back to BC. To who ever the DBers were that gave me a lift back up Thanks.

All who fished with me were great fisherpersons and great company. Thanks for joining me on the river.
