That's what the cruiser is for!! Last year we folded a cow up inside, and then by the time I wheeled her down the trail she stiffened up, and we had to saw her front legs off inside of the cab!

KA-BAR Knives
Bob, I've got a name of an (now deceased) older Marine Sgt Major I'd like to run by you - email me if you're interested. His daughter lives next door and only recently told me a bit about him. Marine Corps League Marine of the yr award, WWII combat in Army Air Corps prior to joining the Corps, etc. His career scrapbook is an interesting read.

Tony,
we normally just drag them out whole after being gutted! There is always a road close by. Only thing I still need is a couple more lanterns, and a water tank for the stove and we will be set.

I am ready, saw a nice 5 point again this weekend. Been seeing him all summer so hopefully he will be in the same area once season opens. Will use deer season more as an elk scouting trip and get serious about deer during the late hunt.

My kinda hunter there FD, I don't usually hunt deer much anymore...been too busy the last few years....you have the perfect base camp up in the Kalama...I think your road system hooks up with my SE Mt St Helens haunt thru grapevine....met a guy high up and got to talkin an he tells me he came up thru Kalama...blah, blah....but I was like cool...didn't know you could do that.

I will be hunting out of my place this year, have located a fair amount of animals. Elk in a few different spots so hopefully it will all work out. If the WYCO gates are open you can get quit a few places from the Kalama river Rd. But if they close the gate at the end of the county Rd and then up the Gobar you can't get anywhere with a vehicle. I like it when they open the mainlines and close all the spurs. Mkaes for some good hunting. Good luck have heard good things about that SE St. Helens area.

that's a good plan FD, deer seem dumb and plentiful enough to just take them when the opportunity arises and use the time for scouting herds of

Good luck in Tioga, Hunted that a few years ago. Had a good time and saw a lot of elk. Just was never able to get a shot at a legal bull. Saw some nice ones killed though.

Thanks, that unit is full of elk and it's only a matter of timing til the crosshairs end up on a bull. Well, and a cow for that matter.
Best of luck to you.

I hear ya on the timing thing down there. That is where we were off a bit, one spot we hunted teh day before a guy killed a bull in the next day, another spot we were going to hunt in the morning an old timer killed a bull in the night before. Whole hunt went that way but was still fun. For coast country that is some of the steepest nastiest county around. Good luck.

Indeed, but if you know where the benches and razorbacks are you can funnel them right to the shooters. Fortunately for me, I can't hike them too well anymore, so I get to do some

Tioga is a sw Oregon unit, between I-5 and the ocean, n of Hwy 42, s of the umpqua river, generally. Along the coastal areas of this unit, the land forms natural benches often bordered by razorbacks (severely steep graded rocky cliffs, and forested box canyons too!). If you have done your homework and know the topography and trails well enough, you can position yourself for many opportunities.

Thanks for the clarification Tony, sounds like and awesome place to hunt...I love rugged territory, my motto is "I'll worry how to get it out after I kill it"....i'm not one to not shoot something just cause it's gonna be too much work. Same with fishin, I'll cast into the wood, i'll figure out how to yard that chromer out or lose it trying....good luck on your hunt, 5weeks for you....less than 4 for me.
