Way, way back a bunch of .220 Swift fans went out to kill all kinds of big game to show off their prowess.
To make a long story short, they made some spectacular kills ..... but if the bullet struck bone, it blew up on the surface, and left a gaping but superficial wound, requiring a long follow up, and NOT always successful.
This inconvenient example is evidence that it is not too smart of a practice to hunt deer (and larger) with a .22 centerfire rifle, at least for me.
We owe the game a little more respect.

A .22 long rifle makes for a nice close range weapon for deer. Head shot...all or nothing. Logic would tell me that a .224 would be more than ample.

I'm pretty hip on killing it, as a rule.

I don't think "love" ever enters into the equation when out hunting for meat. There are more important benefits than sympathy when speaking of a good, clean kill.

I'd guess but I can't see any of your pictures unfortunately, due to the fact that I've been banned from photobucket for posting pictures of naked chicks.

I'll wager a guess on the first buck in the first video, how about .270 Weatherby with a 150gr PSP? The second gun sounded quieter, maybe a 25-.06 with a 130 boattail spire point? Sh*t I don't know...

That’s some funny sh!t right there. It looks like that bear is having fresh steaks tonight, unless you dropped him to. Sweet video.

I make no claims as being any sort of a firearms expert, so I'll end my guessing.
Did you blaze that bear that was fixin' to chow your buck?
How about a guess on the rifle/bullet that did this one?

You're probably close on the impact velocity, I can't recall the ballistics chart for yardage off the top of my head. But it was a 275 yard shot uphill at close to a 45 degree angle at 5500 feet elevation into an approximately 10 mph breeze, air temp was near 25F. Muzzle velocity for this round is about 3050 fps.

.270 Win, Remington 130 gr PSP Core-Lokt ammo, Haven't gotten around to loading my own yet.
Bullet hit dead square on a rib, normally it doesn't jello the flank like that, but this was a different story. Oh well, dead deer and meat loss was minimal. A little meat loss in the flank ain't bad when you got a five mile hike back to camp.

The guy with the deer on his back on the ATV, that is funny as hell. Is one of those dudes your Dad? Anyhow, you ever thought about compiling your vids and selling them in some sort of production?
