Trapping bad critters!
      #80840 - 10/27/03 06:09 AM

Some really low down and dirty critter has eaten all my Goldfish! I am not happy! These goldfish were very large and I bonded with them!

I think it was a raccoon.

I do not know current trapping regulations. Do I have to live trap and release somewhere else or can I blow his fish stealing head off?

Dances was trapping them several miles away from my place all summer. He was releasing them other places. If I find out he released them here, I will break his thumb!

Also, do raccoons steal bird food? I had a gourd feeder that has totally disappeared and I doubt my squirrels are that strong.

The coons got our goldies too... I would suspect coons on the feeder theft. With a hunting license I believe coons are fair game. Live trapping will probably be easier to catch the critters. Using dogfood to bait them is illegal? or does that ban on bear baiting not apply.

Has to be a coon! I noticed the suet feeder I had nailed up is now missing. Squirrels aren't THAT strong.

I would just trap them. They are damaging your property and you have a right to protect them. They have gotten to my goldfish as well.

You can get box traps from the Co-op and sometimes the sportsman's guide carries them. I have caught several opossums and cats. The opossums get a pellet gun to the head, the cats get hosed and then released. Canned cat food is my bait of choice.

Sometimes you can get live traps from the Humane Society on a use them and then bring them back. Trap em live, then shoot em.

You know, when you take over nature from wild critters, you leave your self at risk of them retaliating.

Okay, now that I have come to my senses, I say trap 'em and torture. We have caught quite a few that we give a saltwater dunking to. I know, it sounds cruel but these buggers are mean. Not afraid of a human. I also like the spotlighting trick

If they were ever traped before, you don't stand a chance of catching 'em. They are mean critters, and a lot of 'em have rabies. (I shot two of 'em, obviously rabid, in a residential area, under the watchful eyes of an officer - he only had a .45.) Don't take a chance - lead poisoning is the best medecine!

Well now, I was thinkin along these lines....

Since I suspect Dances may have left these masked beasts in my neighborhood, perhaps I ought to keep one caged till Dances comes home during Thanksgiving break. I'll feed it, poke it, tease it and make it even meaner!

Then I can let it loose in the cab of his pickup while he's out fishin!

What do ya think?

(my .22 is by the back door in case I get one tonight.)

Just for giggles,, please call in a report of the nuisance animal to the Department. I know, I know, you ask why? Well when it comes time again to fight this trapping battle again there are plenty of nuisance complants on the books. You never had this problem before the trapping ban was implimneted right

I have some homemade box traps that kick A over the have a heart traps, so if you dont get em let me know.
Tie your attractant/bait in a sock and hang it from the top of the trap. Make sure you cover the top and the side with something like plywood and secure it well. They will do some amazing things that you would never think capable from such a small animal.

I have downloaded two wooden trap plans, and will get one put together this weekend.

Use a plain old fashioned steel leg holder and wire it VERY WELL to a tree. Just check it from a distance every few hours, and have a .22 with you. (By the way, they work well on cats, too!)

I would not set a trap that my dog could get hurt in. She roams freely on the property as she knows it's hers to patrol.

Randy,

The reason we have cats... and puppies.... and bunnies around here, is because people come out here to dop them off "in the wild"

You'd think with all the coyotes, these things would get eaten. Worthless coyotes!

Aunty, how much $ and groveling would it take for me to get that bugger's skin cleaned and cured(boraxed)? There are some mighty fine flies to be had from all parts of that skin. I'd offer some stuff in trade, but unless you use saltwater bucktails for trolling, I'm afraid all I have to offer right now is cash (yeah I know, boo hoo for me )
