Time to go Squidding (Squid Fishing)
      #142204 - 10/23/04 08:14 AM

I've been aching to go squid fishing. Work has been very stressful and I need to get out. For the last few weeks, we have been making our new Squidinator(TM) Squid Jig. I need to get these in the water. The tides look really good the weekend of 10/30-31/2004. So, pending appropriate conditions(muddy water) I'm going out. Location needs to be determined. It will be in the Bremerton area. That's not to say I won't be out before that

So.....mark your calender. If there is a lot of interest we will need to take that into consideration when picking a location.

Keep posting those squid fishing reports.

Joker... On your jigs with the big hooks, are the hooks premade or you bending each one. I use to make and sell jigs everynight and to stores, made a good share but got tired of bending the hat pins... Thought about getting back into it but only If I found a place with premade hooks.

No bending. These are manufactured like that. No welding either. We use a metal collar. We have another model being made as I type. It will be a top seller. I can sell the hooks by the 10's, 100's, 1,000's, 10,000's, what ever anybody wants. They make a great squid jig.

I did not get out tonight. Needed to watch Boston make history. I'm looking forward to this weekend. Looking at 10/29 or 10/30. I'll be looking to get there around sun down. Who knows how long I'll be out. More info as the week progresses.

Well it sounds like we need to hook up... I make the squid jig body from scratch. They are identical to the old yamimottos (didn't spell that one right) and the whally whales. I can make them in any color, with or w/o glitter or whatever your creative mind can come up with. Here is a pic of some, they havn't been polish yet.....

They look pretty cool. If you could send me a few that would be great. That way I could check them out. Our Squidinator™ Squid Hook would be a great match. Our web site www.juicyjigs.com has our mailing address. You can also contact me through the site via email or pm me through this site. If you can, you should come out squidding this weekend. It will be in the Bremerton area.

OK.... I need to get out tomorrow night or Saturday. I have received no response from the Port of Brownsville. I've emailed and left voice messages. I want the "offical" word on squidding. I was at their web site and their mission statement says, "...to provide affordable public recreation opportunities and to provide access to the water for safe responsalbe use of our marine resources". Sounds like squidding fits in their statement nicely. But since they have not responded, does anyone have any suggestions on a squidding location in the Bremerton area?

Don't be shy....place a post.

As I sit, listening to NOAA radio, the forcast is for 15 to 25 knott winds with 1-4 foot wind waves. Not the best squid fishing conditions. I vote to wait. If people really want to get out I'll go. The wind and waves makes it tough.

I just checked the temp outside. I show 49 degrees with some pretty good wind. The wind chill is about 40 right now. With the projected winds, we are looking at temps with the wind below 30. Even colder with strong winds. Now do not get me wrong. I do not mind the cold. I just dress accordingly. The wind is the problem. The wind is also projected to be out of the south which puts it right in our face as we jig. It makes for very difficult squidding.

So lets wait. With the time change, I'll also be happy to go out during the week. I'll keep everyone posted.

FYI, check out the web site. We have a new squid jig on the market. It is the Squidinator(TM) Squid Jig.

We are always trying to improve our products. We will be having another new squid jig hopefully by the end of next month. It will be made differently (if all goes well).

Looks like Friday night will be a go How about Illahee pier. 6:00pm till maybe 9:00pm. The lights stay on until 10pm. That is if they have been set to the new time. I'll have my own light. This creates enough light for four people or so. There are usually a few spots open by the lights. Tides, moon, and weather all look good!

Panko is in the pantry for deep frying. Fresh veggies are ready for marinating with the squid.

Hope I catch a few.

Well the time is almost upon us. I find it hard to believe you won't catch any squid. That is if you use Juicy Jigs™
We should be out there by 5:30pm if all goes well (we'll be at Illahee pier). There are only a few parking spots at the pier but across the street is a minimart that is closed. You can park there and just walk across the street to the pier. I like to get out as close to sunset as possible. I always have pretty good luck for the first hour after sunset. The battery is charged for the my light but there are usually spaces under the pier lights regardless.

I'll post how it went.

Hey Joker!

Thanks again for the squid schooling, it was fun! We got another half dozen before the lights went out at 9. They're all cleaned and in the fridge.

Glad you had a good time. The lights should be on unitl 10:00. Looks like the timer has not been changed

Overall, it was a slow night but the weather was great! There were some nice size squid. There were also some of the smallest squid I've seen caught before. I don't bother cleaning those. I just freeze them for bait.
