Wondering if anybody is interested in doing a fly swap? Never done one but I could grind out a batch I think.

I'm down Marty. Fly swaps are a good way to see some new patterns you may not normally see.
I suggest winter steelhead patterns or lake trout patterns. Or maybe just open to any type so you don't know what kind of flies you'll get.

A fly swap would be great count me in. I think winter steelhead flies would be fun especially with the winter steelie season just starting.

Let me know, I'm in either way.

Ok what do we need to do for this to roll... How many tiers we need? Patterns? My vote is for steelhead patterns.. your choice of pattern.

Marty, first off, you decide what type of swap to do (salmon, steelhead, trout, etc) then what run (springers, winter, summers, etc), then you can either limit how many or just do a roll call and collect how many guys volunteer. I usually will put a deadline and see how many sign up. Then, say if it hits 12 I shut it off. But, if you set limit to 12, you won't get enough to sign up, so it's a catch 22.
I'd say a winterrun steelhead fly swap would be in order. I STRONGLY suggest that each fly swapper tie up the pattern of their choice, and ONE pattern only. Sometimes people will send in 12 different flies. This makes it a pain in the ass since you want each swapper to get same fly from the tier. So, let's just set up a sign up sheet, and see what happens after a week. We'll have a max of 12 total. Winterrun flies, can either be your favorite fly or one you've always wanted to tie. Sound good Marty?

I don't know much about steelhead flies but if your tiers are willing to gamble on on a favourite British seatrout( sea running brown trout in Britain -equivalent to your steelhead) fly, I'm willing to join up - from your flies in the cross Atlantic swap I'd guess I would have to scale our flies up to a 4 or 6 How does that sound ? Sure Ali, would be fine. Alot of the UK patterns work great here. Just tie up what you'd like.
I will have a total in a week or so. Wanting to get a few more people involved.

Wow, you guys get scientific don't you? I've played around a bit and found a little critter I make with black or purple pheasant tails that seems to catch. That will probably be my contribution. All I know is it works. I'll tie 'em up and let you be the judge.

Ok, unless I've counted wrong (which the drugs I'm taking for my injury, I wouldn't doubt it LOL ) I count 11. Look good to you all? I'll go through and double count and get list of names/emails. Then I'll send a bulk email with how many to tie and my address.
Thanks Jerry

If it's not too late I'd like to join up for this.
I've been tying a bunch for Christmas gifts anyway, so my vise is all warmed up and ready to go.

I might have to withdraw my position in the swap. I am going to be in Maui until the fifth of Jan, so if you are looking for the flies after that, then count me in. See ya next year....

Hey Crump, no biggie. You're still in. I don't plan on having this thing wrapped up until about 2nd week of Jan minimum. So you're a go.

Sorry guys. My computer crashed, so am not able to check board that often. Once I get time (hopefully in next day or two) I'll get list together and post how many to tie. Using my Dad's computer, so only able to check periodically.

Ok guys, finally got back to the computer. Sorry, mine is still in the shop. Ok, I have finalized list, so here's the final amount of flies to tie and address to send to.
I have myself, Marty, RocketRed, Steelieonfly, Stew, Riverrat13603, Iggie, Crump, Dappereli, Drewski, Drbfish, and Papafish. Making a total of 12 swappees, so tie a total of 13 flies (always give an extra for the swapmeister) lol. But I'll pay all return postage on flies. Here's the details.
Tie 13 IDENTICLE flies. Preferable all on same sized hooks so all will have uniform flies sent back to everyone. Same pattern on all 13 as well. Send them in package you want sent back in (will simply reload package and readdress then put postage on). Please, put your Steelheader.net ID on package so I know who you are. Send flies to
Jerry Daschofsky 5085 NE 37th ST Tacoma, WA 98422
Look forward to getting all your flies, hoping to get this swap done by mid february, so gives you a couple weeks to tie and send my way.
Jerry
