If that isn't an advertisement for fly fishing, I don't know what is. Those are some really good looking fish. I would bet you have a smile on your face today.

That looks like an oil painting to me, is that really a photo ? And it looks like you were fishing with egg patterns. And I really dislike these Rogue River fly guys fishing before work, lunch and after work etc.... LOL

Cool, thanks Gus. May have to see what Marty can do with that one. Maybe make a header for the page.

Beautiful fish. Man, I miss morning fishing before work. Used to hit the Puyallup in the AM before work while I was married (anything to get away from my ex lol). What a way to start your day. Congrats.

Work, what's work. I've been retired for almost 5 years now and have forgotten all about what I used to do.

But what I wanted to do was ask Jerry a question about his flies. Do you used head cement on your flies? Because those steelhead flies you gave me a while back has the heads unraveling. But I applied some head cement so I hope I fixed the problem.

Thank's for so much.

Jim

I think he does, Jim. Maybe not enough, though. I usually coat mine twice, just to be sure. I use Sally Hanson's "Tough as Nails" nail polish for my head cement, as does Fred and others. Works better than conventional head cement, and you can use nail polish remover as a general solvent for the stuff (for cleaning out your dispenser, etc.) I picked that up as a tip from someone years ago, and have been very happy with the way it works.

Well I had some a while ago and I quit trying to tie for a while about 6 months and it dried up on me so I switched to head cement and now it don't dry up on me.

Been using Sally Hansen Hard as Nails for over 15 years never had a fly fall apart using it. Not going to say you should use it for display flys where you want a high gloss finish on the head but if you are like me and ty fishing flies it is fine, and cheaper then the fly shop bought head cement.

Hey Jim, which flies? The one's I tied, or the one's I gave you from the UK? Not sure about the one's from the UK. But I always put hard heads on mine. If they unraveled, I may have forgot to put the head cement on. Hmmmmm, and they were whip finished too. Interesting. May have to check them out. Shouldn't have unraveled. Were they the small flies? Those were the one's from the UK.

It was that first group that you sent me. The Steelhead flies. Not one of them had a hard head as you call it. Was gonna put on the Green Butt Skunk and as I was starting to thread the fly I seen where the thread was unraveling. If I got it right you told me you tied them up.

No the Small ones are alright, but have one question. Where in this state can you use a fly with double hooks? One of the small flies has it tied that way.

Hmmmm, not sure Jim. I forgot I had a few doubles in that batch.

Damned Jim, I apologize. I didn't finish them. I was in a hurry, and must've forgot to put the head finish on them. They shouldn't unraveled anyways. Interesting. I'll send you a few more to try out. I think it's flies tied while I was on my narcotics. I sent out ALOT of free flies to customers because I had forgot to put the head cement on. One of the main reasons I stopped taking damned things. Kept forgetting to do things. Too stoned LITERALLY all the time. Will tie you up a nicer batch. Noticed my ties improved after stopping the drugs. Live with more pain, but experience more life to boot.

Ok Gus, you're banned buddy. We don't need to see that.

Great job. Gonna head down and do some fishing trips with my Dad. Hitting salmon mostly, but depending on how we do, may hit some summerruns still hanging out in the holes outside my Dad's place on the Nooch.

The date on that picture is today 10/6 !!

All weekday fishing pictures should be banned, unless you are on vacation or on a day off.

The only fish I could do a lunch time is largemouth bass, carp, blue gills, and pike. Have a couple of large forest preserve lakes 5 minutes from my office.

Not jealous, I find it awesome. I'm just jealous I'm not able to simply fish at all like I should. But, will be doing some trips here soon. Maybe even tomorrow.

Hal, You're right, it was this morning, about 710 am.

Get to O'Hare RIGHT NOW, en route to Medford International (you have no idea how oxymoronic that is...), bring a headlamp and clean shorts, and I'll meet you in the morning at 0600. You can even use my Loop LYL9140-4, but I also have a spare 7wt since it has yet to sell...

Or wish me luck on another picture real soon!

I can see O'Hare from my office and be there in 20 minutes driving time. It would take me a full day to get there the last time I checked driving from Portland AP down to south Oregon.

Awwww... Poor Hal -

Hey, Hal... It was your choice to work in the "Big City", and have kids (thus, college bills) later in life... (and don't blame the princess, either.)

Now, Gus may not make as much money as a big city corporate guy, but I'll bet you he is having a lot more fun!

You just have to live by your choices!

And Jerry, what did I say to warrant the dreaded "penalty box"? All I did was to tell Gus to keep on having a ball, despite all the detractors.

Jeepers.... what a bunch of grouches!

LOL

I will be working on my response to Bobk's comment also.

Okay, yes, I could make triple the money for what I do in the big city as opposed to Medford. I actually turned down a six figger plus job last week in SoCal...

Why?

Well, because of things like THIS morning, for example...

Geez, I love this time of year...

Regular Upper Rogue steelhead... Half Pounders rarely make it this high, and are much smaller.

On the waders, I go waist high's over the Dockers, and I've found it also helps to have a short haircut that you can wear a cap on and then not have a hat ri
