If you live with in the Chelan, Douglas, and Grant county area, Wincherster wasteway ( 10 miles out of quincy off of road 5 and adams) opens feb. 1st. Get ready for stringers and stringers of perch. Its spawning season and Also a great time for bass and carp fishing as well.
here is a set up the works very well

Thanks for the info buddy. I have an eight year old son that I would like to take fishing sometime soon. To get there, do you get off on the Dodson road exit and head towards the waterway, along the freeway?

It is listed in the wdfw regs( Eastside lakes, special rules) Also I called the Ephrata office several years ago and was told all waters on the irrigation system are open year round although some do have sections with special regs. The only reason that section is closed is to protect migrating waterfowl until after hunting season

So do you bank fish for them? Are they decent sized? Are there a lot of people fishing for them? Just curious it's a long drive to get there from here.

Just hit the area out side of the game reserve and had very poor results. had three perch and a bass. I saw a kid pull out a 59 lbs. carp saw the scale and all. People where having good luck once they found the schools of perch. perch are nice sized about 9 -10 inchs and about 1/2 pound. going to be a good snack. once we start having warmer days the action will be great.

well got back from the wasteway today with alot better results. The weather up here has been nice and sunny making the perch alot more active and hungry. I caught 10 perch and missed over 15. The biggest was 10 1/2 inch and about a pound. They have alot of energy and wanting to burn it off they are very aggresive. I am going back out tomarrow and I will post my results.

got back with ok results for todays weather. It was litely snowing and below freezing about 5 degrees. Caught 3 perch and missed 5. Also got the first carp of the year about 5 pounds and 16 inches. fun stuff. to answer pluggers qestion, I fish the road five bridge. Form quincy take f street heading to Eprata then take a right on adams road. fallow adams untill you reach road 5 intersection. take a left. fallow road five past highway 283 and countine on. with in five miles or less you will run into the road five bridge the crosses the wasteway. Fish are usually around the bottom. The wasteway only get about 5 feet deep. so find the depths your self. . I use a 1/4 of a night crawler and a size 8 egg hook. If you get into a carp, please leave it for dead on the bank. They eat the perch eggs and ruin seasons of these panfried candys. ummmm. PERCH.

I just heard about that from someone the other day. The perch run up there and spawn don't they? I didn't know when they started heading up in it though. I'm in Ephrata quite a bit b/c my girlfriend's from there. PM and we'll hook up, definitely interested.

Kick A$$ Pinch of snuff. PM me your number and I willl call you when I start fishing them. If we keep having this rainy weather and no freezing rain, They might be good in three weeks but I have a fear that we are going to get dumped on in january with snow. I just ordered 2 rods and a new reel from bass pros to get ready. I'll be getting them the 4 and 5 of Jan So I might head out that weekend and I will let you know on how things are. I think that would be sweet to hook up. Maybe once they start heating up, we can atract some steelheader.net members and have a perchtilla or warmwaterfishtilla. STS_FISHER

If your good at filleting ya. During the last two weeks of feburary and first two weeks of march the canal will produce good size perch to 14 inches. There is also good bass and carp fishing as well. STS_FISHER

It's been awhile since I made the winter trip to the wastway. I remember one year I got real religious and stopped there on the way to pick up my wifes wedding ring one winter...she doesn't know about that. I am from the big Moses Lake STS FISHER....I bet we have fished alot of the same waters.
