Thread weaving
      #357385 - 12/06/08 03:58 PM

I saw the Thread weaving post a few weeks ago and thought it would be fun to try. I watched a video on it, bought some thread and gave it a try.

I made a simple pattern of just my name and wove it.

I made a pattern of an Orca Whale and started on it.

Very nice! Can you make me one with an elephant on it? Or better yet put the masonic square and compass in my signature and my dads name on a trolling rod. That would be a perfect gift for my dad.

I think I could do the elephant, but the Masonic square is out of my league right now. I am working on a steelhead now and have a multi colored chum on deck....after that I will find a elephant and practice....otherwise it might look like a donkey

You should do one in the Dolphin colors, like your Avatar. I bet that would look cool on a rod.

Here is the steelhead weave I just finished up and another picture of the Orca.

The video was from a guy named Doc Ski. I found his video on www.acidrod.com

I think some color changes can be made and spots rearrainged to make several different species of fish from this same pattern. Gonna do a G Loomis "Fear No Fish" next then try a chrome Nisqually Chum.

I got most of the middle pretty tight. I think the problem on this was 4 layers of thread (olive, purple white and grey). The grey I used for the fins went from top to bottom...53 threads. If that turns just a tiny bit it gets a little out of tilt. More practice needed. I'm gonna figure this out and do some cool schiznit!

Kerry,
You got any used rod wrappers you want to get rid of? My home made one consists of my thread bobbin weighed down by a clamp and a roll of masking tape hanging from the rod.
