Looking to pick up one.

I've been eyeballing the Kimbers for quite some time. Just been having a hard time dropping the $$$$ to get one.

Which make & model do you like ?

I would love to have a kimber but they are pricey but I believe well worth it. I alternate between a CZ-75 PO1 and a XD-40. To throw in my back packet from time to time I have a little llama 380, but I would say the majority to time I carry the CZ. The PO1 is a NATO issue and I love how it shoots, handles and carries. NO printing at all with a good holster.

One of these two. You'd never know I had either on me.

S&W 930 5-shot revolver in 9mm (full-moon clips). 2", stainless, hammerless, rubber grips. No BS.

S&W 3904. Thin and carries cleanly in several rigs.

I would like one of those .500 S&W ported 2.5" griz guns, just to be able to pull on someone once. That thumb-sized hole with the visible hollow point in it would be a great deterrent. I thought the ports were pencil holders or something...friggin huge.

I think your first .45 should be an accuraized full size steel frame with a nice trigger and good signts, so you can really enjoy the single action.

But seriously, I wouldn't carry a full size frame unless I was carrying a full size gun. If you want to make it lighter go with a Commander length steel slide and officer sized aluminum frame.

If you aren't carrying it around, I would get a nice big intimidating pistol that will leave an intruder with a heavy load in his pants from seeing it pointed at him. Like a .500.

Either that or a small 9mm that can be stored in a bedside drawer since you can have a lot of decent sized rounds in a small package.

But that's just me.

Nothing better for home protection than a double barrel. That'll make em shirt their pants when aimed at their gut or head.

fishy, how do you like the 40 s&w? Can you get back on target after a shot?
Nick, I've was talking to a bud today and he said the advantage to a 9mm is getting back on target quickly for a second and third shots.
What do you guys think about laser sights for a point and shoot capability?
The 40 might pack a little more pop. I've seen a .500, wow what a gun, I may not be able to handle something like that.

The 9mm doesn't have a whole lot of kick so yes, you can keep on target easier. A lot of people like them because they can hold a lot more rounds for their size, but are sufficient for protection from people. The 9mm is a lot less popular now that the law restricts clips to 10 rounds. When you could have 15 round clips they were more attractive for personal protection. I don't think you need 15 rounds unless you get into a "Matrix" scenario. But if that was the case, you are better off putting your gun down, bending over, grabbing your ankles, putting your head between your legs and kissing your ass goodbye.

the xd deos great the thing i love about it is it has the sub compact clip and then a full size clip with the rest of the handle on it to make it fullsize it pops about the same as a 9mm i still like my 45 colt commander but its a little big to be dragging around

You can buy new guns with hi-caps now. Mag restrictions died in 2004. Even during the ban there were plenty of hi-caps available that were manufactured before the ban.
One of the thinks I find appealing about 9mm is the price of ammo.

Ya? I sold my last handgun before that but now that you mention it, I remember hearing about that restriction lifted.

Yes, you 9mm owners got it good for ammo prices. .45cal is expensive and nobody has the stuff! Swains in Port Angeles only had two boxes of one type left so I bought them both. I went to Wal-Mart in Renton today and they are completely out. I talked to the guy behind the counter and he said nobody in the country is getting .45ACP ammo for some reason. He also mentioned a 500% tax on ammo being masterminded by the new retard America wanted to run the country. That means a $20 box of ammo will cost $100 ($80 will be taxes alone).

Luckily a guy buying some ammo overheard me talking to the walmart employee and he said "I got thousands of rounds of .45 I am selling along with my 1911". I offered to buy a few boxes of the ammo alone and he gave me his #. He has a shizload of expensive and hard to find ammo like Remington Black Talons & the newer version of them, the SXT. I am gonna get a sweet deal.

Everything has gone up in price, apparently because of military demand. 9mm target ammo used to be $10 for 100rnds at Walmart. It's about double that now.

Most law enforcement agencys switched over from 9mm to.40 because the 9mm didn't have enough stopping power.

Mark, I heard something like that too but I thought most used .38. Maybe 9mm were standard issued but most cops bought .38 and are now issued .40. I dunno

There's a saying "Bring Enough Gun".

There may be a few departments that still carry .38's, but pretty sure most have switched over to automatics for the added firepower if needed.
