Now that the trout season is well underway, I thought it would be fun to see some pictures of your keepers/trophies on the season so far. Here's a pretty little fish (3 lbs) we caught over the weekend. Lets see'm, guys.

Tigers were a first for me as well. Guess there's a couple places around here that have 'em. They were pretty thick, getting past them to the brooks was pretty tough.

First thing about posting pictures is sizing them properly. I use irfanview for this. It is a freeware program that I downloaded after googling it. I open the picture I want to post in irfanview. I then select Image in the taskbar, then resize/resample. I then choose 500 width (make sure pixels is selected not inches, and preserve aspect ratio is selected in the bottom block), and 50 in the DPI block. Then click OK and save it to my desktop (so I can find it).
I then open the PHOTO GALLERY page on Steelheader.net. Select upload photos in the task bar below the pictures in the Recent Posts - All Categories. Click on the browse button, find your desktop in the look in block at the top, then find your picture on your desktop. Click on your picture then click on open. There will be a path to your picture displayed in the block next to the Photo to upload: block. Next, click on the upload/submit button.
Click on the process files button, and it will be uploaded to your gallery. You are almost done. the last step is posting your photo in your post. The way I do it is go to wherever you want your photo in your post, and click on the image button on the bottom of the post. Then in a separate window open up the photo gallery, and click on your photo. Near the bottom of the information, you'll find a block titled UBB CODE. Next to it you'll find something that looks similar to this...

Copy all the data other than the blocks, and paste them into the block that opened when you clicked on image in your post. Then submit your post and it should have a picture in it. You can put as many pictures in a post as you want using this method. You can also post pictures hosted on other sites, by just copying the URL of the photo. If you have any questions, feel free to holler at me.

Caught this bull trout yesterday. Measured 25 inches, weighed in at 7 lbs. Took his own sweet time ocmming to the net. The other is of a 14 inch native redband rainbow. Not a big fish, but have you ever seen a prettier rainbow???? Not me.

Gotta love the Missouri

I always considered the brookie to be the most attractive trout, but that red band rainbow is incredible. Do they all look like that or is that one especially colorful? Thanks for sharing the pics Jake. And BTW, great Blog.

BTF, that bow was from a spring creek near Sisters, Or called the Metolius. It is known for its native bows and big bull trout (up to 20 lbs). Most of the little bows look like that one, the bigger ones are not so colorful, but still amazing. Glad you liked the blog.

Here's one more little bull trout caught Friday morning. Hooked one on about my fifth cast and it had some shoulders on it. Never saw it because ice had built up in my guides and I could not get my fly line to leader knott through the ice. Tried to dip the rod in the water whit the fish on and "pop" - there she goes. Guessing it was a 25+ inch fish. Oh well. Had a good time fishing with an old friend the day after Thanksgving. Here's the 21 incher.

More Bullies,
Went out ot my favorite river again yesterday with some buddies. Went 2:4 on bull trout. Several whitefish in the mix and one rainbow that jumped like it was in boiling water. The bullies went 22 inches on the first, and 20 on the second. Another great, very wet day of fishing on the crystal clear Metolius. Here are the pictures:

Was out on my favorite river again yesterday. Spent three hours up there, this time with my wife, who has fished this river a total of three times, and who has fly-fished only a handful of times (maybe 5). Long story short - she out-fished me and I couldn't be happier! This is a tough river to fish, and these bull trout see a lot of pressure and are extremely difficult to catch. By buddy has fished with me out there 7 or 8 times and has never landed a fish - and he has been tossing flies all his life. My wife waltzed out there yesterday and nailed two (pictured here). The first measured 25' and 5 lbs on the dot. The other we only got a length on and it was 24' even. I hooked two, landed one thin 24 incher. After fighting her first fish, she said to me "Now I see why you like this so much." I was pretty proud of her. She did it all herself - from casting, mending line, to setting hook, adjusting drag, and bringing it to the net (I was on the net for her).

That's awesome. I don't recognize the lake from the pic. Doesn't look like the Vance Creek ponds. Is there boat access on that lake?

I hit the lakes pretty hard this weekend for the opener. Every year we have a party and a little derby between our party members. The lake was really pretty slow for most, but I had a ton of action trolling from my toon. I c&r a lot of planters, but I also got some nice holdovers and some nice cuts.
These are the first two fish of my limit. A 14.5” holdover bow and a nice 13” cut. The fish on the bottom was the money fish for the derby, not only a good fighter but it was worth 80$.

I finished out my limit with two other 13” holdover bows and a really fat 14” holdover bow.
I c&r this big bow the day before opening day on a lake that is open year round. One of my favorite techniques for this lake is trolling huge spoons, and this fat 18-20” bow nailed this Canadian Wonder. I didn’t have a tape with me but it was the biggest trout I have landed in over 3 years.

Peace Dustin
