Currently planning a trip with my dad for June or July. It will be our first trip to AK. Looking into a few lodges and a few float trips. Any suggestions on either or why one trip would be better than another.

I'm heading to a place that has never been fished before. Zipper until I get back with proof!!!!!!
My buddy is building a new lodge and I'm headed there the middle of July. He says there's so many Kings that they will bite a rag with scent on it. 4 on at a time is no problem and Halibut in 35 feet of water too!!! I'm taking Kwikfish and eggs so I'm hoping for some "World Class" King and Halibut fishing this year.
He went out and tried for Halibut but didn't have any bait so he put out a Kwikfish out and limited the boat. I'll take some bait fer sure.
WooHoo!!!

Don't usually have time, I go up in early June after the season is already underway and don't have time to stop, I would like to cause I still have some friends in Ketchikan, then at the end of the season the dreaded "DSB's" (deadly semen backup) prevents me from stopping.

That can be postponed by a conjugal visit..mid-summer! Mrs. Nav came to K-town for our 40th aniversary last summer, preventing deadly back-up!

Exactly! I've never locked the door when I'm alone. So, if it's locked when you've stopped by, there would be a reason. Sometimes things not known by all, work out the best.

I'll be right here, all year again. A buddy just ordered a new Willy, and got his Kenai licence, So I'll be helping to hold down the bow a few times , maybe a couple trips to the salt for Butts, and Lings with another friend, silvers, reds, pinks, chums, rainbows, dollys, and/or grayling with others on many streams. Damn I wish summer would get here. Sitting on a bucket on a frozen lake gets old, but it's still better than what some of you other guys are doing up here.

Sorry AkKings, Going to have to find a new star from your DVD. Still have "Spanky" under contract for this season but not "Big Spooge". He will be somewhere else. I was thinking of a possible replacement.......... "Spanky and Papa Smurf" star in "Queens of Kings" or maybe "Is that your Red Snapper?". Sorry Mitch the voices made me do it.

You know, if you keep telling yourself that fishing is better there, maybe it will come true. NOT!!!!!!! Maybe you ought to put your boat on a trailer, put it on the IFA ferry, and drive to this side of the island. Oh wait, you probably don't want others to find out the truth. Sorry, cat's already out the bag.

We didn't go to Muzon for kings, butts, lings, reds. There were alot of days when we would bomb down there early, get our silvers then head back north to fill the box. 2007 things will be back to normal. If it were me and I was coming from K-town I wouldn't waste the fuel on Muzon, stop at Chacon, (Stone rock, McClain arm,, Brown Bear the Glory hole, ahh the memories) Just my $.02 worth though.

Ketchikan fishing must not have been all that good if you were that desperate for eggs.

Exactly what I thought. Just could be sure about the 2 on the right. And there were a couple in the earlier picture I couldn't make out. Just use to seeing Big, Bright Kings out here, not those things you've got posted. I'd be surprised if the neighbor's cat would even eat some of those.

Castaway Chris, "Game On"? Oh please, like I'm really concerned about someone who comes up with things like "SpongeBobbin Scott" or "Snoopypolesmoker". Sounds like you spend way too much time in front of the television watching children's programs. Yawn, you get kindda testy easy don't ya. If you want to go to "Game On", we can start. Like your Vision Hooks and Tackle. I remember those hooks, we tried them for about 1 month. Straighten WAY too many and threw them all away. There's a company to be proud to be affiliated with. You know, I must admit I don't know anything about Rattlesnake or Rainshadow products, so I can't comment on them. I just think it's funny how wanna-bees always put Team this or Prostaff staff that on the end of their posts. Is that suppose to impress anyone besides yourself? Gotta tell you, I know ALOT of people in the industry who are sponsored by alot of different companies, and to tell you the truth, it's usually, like I said earlier, the wanna-bees who have to post their sponsors. Whether they are self proclaimed or not. So do yourself a favor, go back to the sidelines. Just remember, you started "the game" and I just laugh at all this and I don't take things too personal on fishing posts. So, if this hurts your ego, quit before you really get abused. Marty, No kiddin' those look like Coho. But check the two on the right. If you noticed the jaws are alittle dark, just like Jack Kings. Those are the ones in question. Grizz, Yes, actually I am good at photo shop. Playing with pictures is a hobby. You know, you were right! People take things way to personal on here! Let the fun begin. Waiting for comments till the weather gets better, then it's time to go fishin'.

Rumor around town has it someone did well out here recently. Only thing is I hear that every year. So in so know so in so, who' second cousin removed on their ex-wife's side, has a girlfriend who dad caught some here or there. I'm sure there's a few around somewhere. Just waiting for the weather so I can search locally. Don't like going "offshore" this time of year when no one else is around, in case of a major problem. Sitka is a loooooooong way away if your in the water and waiting for a chopper! Especially in the winter!

All in Clean fun scott. Actually i don't watch tv at all as a matter of fact, just had to come up with something silly to go along with mitchs papa smurf! Didn't u guys give him that name up there, and u wanna say all i could come up with was something from a cartoon? Oh and as far as a Wannabee i don't think u quite understand those signature or what affiliations i have! As far as vision hooks, yeah, the old ones sucked in my opinion as well, but the new ones will rock ur world, i say there sharper than Gami's! Whatcha say Mitch, u tested one on ur thumbnail the other day? Team Rattlesnake, well, thats between my boyz at Rainshadow and I and maybe a few worthy steelhead fisherman that fish with me!!! Silly thing is, i don't need to pay no friggin guide, they need to pay me!!!

Chris...Chris...Chris....He didn't say anything about sharpness...just strength. Yeah the thing was sharp, but no sharper than that thousand gamis I had layin' there. As far as strength, we caught 67# kings, and 100# plus butts on those gami's. Not leavin' a good thing for a dream.

Is that why you were so green with envy last spring when I got this job? You wouldn't hardly talk to me for a month after you found out I was going North. As for payin' you...wanna go fishin?...I'll take my rig (yours won't make it there and back), Need bait? (Oh here's some eggos), need some lead? (Mitch has plenty), Out of corkies and yarn? (Look in the back of Mitch's vest) want a beer? (Look in Mitch's cooler) How about a snack? (Oh..Mitch has peperoni and sausages in the cooler too).. guess I do pay you to go fishin' with me!!!

"Hey Mitch( and anyone else with a boat) I don't have a nice boat to go out fishing on for salmon, steelhead, halibut...ad nauseum...can I bum a ride?"
"Hey my rig won't make it so could we take yours?"
"Hey I left most of my gear at home...got some lead, swivels, hooks...?"
" Hey can we take my drunk passed out gal home also on the way?"
Gooose to Chris on a halibut trip btw thank you Mitch, I'll gladly pitch in for gas money anytime for a trip..."Start reeling yours and my gear up again." "If you fished the right gear you wouldn't have to reel up both your gear and mine....reel beeyotch as I'm not." repeated several times during the trip.
Chris to Dogfish..."Hey I'm at the dock." Dogfish already out on the water at daylight and knowing he's in to the fish and knowing that the bite will likely be short makes the mistake of running all the way back in to pick up Chris. Bite had died by the time they got back out there.
Chris there's probably a few guides that wouldn't want you in their boat at any price. Smart guides.

Sorry Chris for missing the last couple days, I'm sure you've been waiting for me to respond. LMAO Been busy. Noticed Mitch already touched on one of the things I was. Nowhere in my post does it say anything about the sharpness of Vision hooks. Originally I compared them to a Gami, both in sharpness and in wire diameter. I actually liked the looks of the Visions, just like a Gami but with a little larger barb. As my post states, we found them to straighten out way to easily. This is a problem in either the forging or tempering stage in manufacturing. Sorry, I'm not a scientist who studies metal. I'm just a fisherman, who knows what is a quality item and what is trash, especially when it pertains directly with my business. So, opposite of what you wrote, it still doesn't look like anything about these hooks are going to rock my world. Also, by the responses that followed your post, doesn't sound like too many guides jumping in line to pay you for your "services". So, guess I'll stick with everything I said in my prior post. But remember: If you wish long enough, sometimes dreams really do come true. Unfortunately, sometimes people set their dreams a little high. Not that I'm saying that about you of course. Enough of the B.S. On a totally different subject, as soon as I find out all the info, there's alot of mis-information circulating right now, I need start a new post. Many may have heard already, but some parts of AK may be having their Halibut limits lowered for part of the season. As soon as I get confirmed dates, I'll post the whole story. Right now, change is most likely going to happen, but I don't want to spread too many rumors and just want to get all the facts straight. Even some of the newspaper articles I've read have some details wrong. As for my info, I'm getting it from someone who was at the meetings held in B.C. alittle over a week ago.

From one of the fish you caught in the hole I was fishing that you pushed your way into?

Yes Goose, That is the direction things are looking, but by no means is anything final. That's why in my post, I stated I wanted to get all facts straight before telling people these are the new regs. Yes this is the recommendation of IPHC, but from here, things need to get approved by the U.S. Sec of State with concurrence of the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, and the process goes on and on. So, as of right now, things look to be headed in the direction of reduced limits, but no need to get everyone excited about when and where, until things actually happen. The preverberal "the ball is rolling" is definately happening, it's just a matter of who gets run over and who jumps out of the way. At this point, only time will tell. Scott

Agreed AKScott just our experience down this way is that what the Halibut Commission wants is what it ends up being. Here's hoping that commonsense will decide otherwise.

Goose, Agreed, what IPHC says usually becomes law. Just hoping dates and/or decisions change. I'm sure we'll find out before too long though. What I wrote wasn't meant to sound like I was disagreeing with you. I just didn't want people, in general, to over-react with questions or posts until we find out what's going to happen. Guess we'll find out what's going to happen before to long. Hopefully/ maybe? Scott

A friend called me last week and said his neighbor bought a place in Alaska and will be up there working on it during the summer. We're invited. I told him it was unlikely I could get the time off work but I'd look into it. Got an email yesterday at work saying my leave request for August 18th-24th has the ok.

Turns out my buddy's neighbor has a business, or just bought into one up there. We'll be staying in Anchorage with access to a cabin on the Kenai Peninsula. We haven't been up there before so I'm open to advice. My friend's neighbor apparently knows some guys there who can point us in the right direction. I'll still be reading and looking over maps until then.
