Steelheadbum,
I'm sure you got your fish "fair and square" but there are a few things to be aware of about Herman Creek. First is that the bulk of the people fishing corkies there are snagging, whether intentionally or unintentionally. Many of these people are fighting fish to death by dragging them in backwards.
These are the people that give Herman Creek a bad name, and will probably end up getting the placed closed for good. Roughly half the steelhead in there are natives so I cant really say that closing it isn't the right thing to do if the snagging doesn't stop.
Not saying you can't catch them there legally on corkies because you can. But if your ripping your shoulder out of socket everytime you feel the slightest line bump, then you should quit fishing or go somewhere else!
If you really want to fish there effectively I would encourage you to bobber fish with bait, or flyfish. Of course you will need to get some of those secret frikken purple prawns that are made by majic sage elves somewhere in Yakima.
Personally I prefer to fly fish there and do really well.
BTW, if you find a place to get those stinking purple shrimp , I'd like to know so I can set my daughter up bobber fishing there sometime.
PM me if you want more info.
Good luck.

Yeah, what Cohonut said. Good luck and see you tomorrow. I'll be in the driftboat with my bud, flinging flies. Hopefully land a couple chrome hatchery fish and go home to bed. Look for my green Steelheader.net hat.

Yeah John, I have a feeling we'll get fish or two!
SHBum, I think the prawns at Fisherman's will work, but not nearly as well as the "official" purple ones. I've heard they are actually not prawns but some kind of shrimp and are about half the size of the ones at FM. Apparently there is a place in Carson that sells them, but I haven't gone over there to find out. For all I know it's run by bait fairies out of a hollow tree! I think you would have better luck with sandshrimp than with the FM prawns. Floating eggs off the bottom (with a pinned corky) does work well at times and is an OK way to fish if you are VERY careful about your hooksets.
Good luck.

Thanks Steelhead Master, I was beginning to think the purple prawns were some kind of controlled substance! If I ever get some I will handle them with rubber gloves because everyone I've asked using them has a bad case of lockjaw! They should be called zipper prawns!
If I try Drano this year I'll make a point of stopping there.
Chinookjinxed, I mean't to be careful with your hooksets if your plunking bait off the bottom with a pinned corky, not under a bobber. Fishing this way is dangerously close to how the "corky rippers" fish. You will get line bumps and you will snag fish if you set on them. I agree that it is unlikely to foul hook while bobber fishing.
BTW, I'm sure SOMEONE on this board can give SteelheadBum2 some advice about bobber fishing. He seems very open to fishing there in a responsible manner which is something that needs to be encouraged!
