I want to go Marty. Good ole Fred Evans can give you lots of details on it. I hope to go. Went to the one on the Sky and it was great. If you want to learn to spey cast, or simply just get better at it, this is the one to go to.

Ah yes, the Sandy River Spey 'Clave (short for conclave)is THE major spey fishing/equipment/etc., even in the US. Several now around the country, but this one's the 'grand daddie' of them all.
The first one came from the fertile brain of Bob Larsell (flybob) and myself. Idea was to get a group of spey caster together with their equipment and 'con' a few rod/line manufactures into bringing in extra equipment for folks to test cast/fish over a full weekend.
We asked Mark B to join us as he had the 'rep. contacts' and it would be darned good publicity for his shop in Welches, Oregon. First year we thought .. maybe 30-40 folks .. try over 100. Last year between the two days there were in excess of 700!
Bob's still part of the organizational set up on the 'Clave; Joan and I are now just attendies.
Only place you can go and have someone hand you $1,000-$1,200 dollars worth of equipment to go play, bring it back and they'll give you another, and another. The instructional parts of the 'Clave on both Sat and Sunday AM are put on by some of the best spey casters in the US. Frequently, the 'big name' companies will even bring over their folks from England and Scotland.
If you're at all interested in spey casting/equipment/etc., this is an event you DO NOT want to miss. Cost? $4.00 to get into Oxbow Park. And they'll even feed you lunch!!
Heck of a deal.
Forgot to add: Joan and I are driving up that Friday (new RV needs to get some miles on it ... even at $2.25/gal)and will be there the entire weekend. Look for an old coot in a faded brown Sage ball cap.

Spoil Sport! If I can spend about $250 on gas for the motor home to drive there ... you can pop for a half tank. (And the $250 will be about right ...

LOL Fred. Well, when you haven't received any sort of a paycheck since January, money gets so tight that I haven't even bought my fishing licenses. Totally shut down my truck and took the insurance off it. Just getting worse. Down to necessities only.

Bring her with you! Spend Saturday at the 'Clave, and spend the weekend in Portland. Think 'romantic weekend' away from the (assume) 'kids.'
A "win-win.'
Hal, forgot to add: Oregon has the 4'th (per yesterdays news) highest prices in the US. Southern Oregon the highest in the State. Friday the average price varied from $2.21.9 to $2.25.9/gal for regular unleaded.
Jerry, that is down to the nubbins when you have to park/cancel your auto insurance.

Yup, I know Fred. Right now we're only running my girlfriends car (little commuter car). Just isn't worth it to drive right now (costs me around $45 a week to run the truck). So down she sits for now.

Sounds like fun - not sure if I should show my face over there. Catch22 thing - found out the hard way some people don't like people who are successful at catching fish - hmmmm! Would be nice to meet SH69, Fred, BG, Marty etc.

Bye n Bye gas in Stanwood, WA. yesterday was $2.279/$2.379
Fred I hope the gas prices are better around Portland area?

If fuel prices keep going up like this, it may someday reach the level of what I paid in BC before I escaped in 99.
.70 CDN per liter 3.79 liters in US gal
you do the math...
Not much chance of our going to the clave on our wedding anniv. We'd have to take the newborn with us wherever we go.
We're actually going to do something bigger for our 10th anniv later this yr when we can spend some time away from the kids...

This true.
The gas station I filled up yesterday for $ 1.99 gallon I rode by on my way home last night and thought I saw that regular was now $ 2.23 a gallon !! I could not beleive it and rode past the station again this morning and yes it is $ 2.23 per gallon. Come on give us break there is no way the gas dealers costs have risen that much in one day.
This is riduculous and I am convinced it is a conspiracy that should be investigated ASAP by our government. Put the prisoner investigations on hold and focus on this issue.
No wonder my brother has a 30 foot ocean going fishing yacht and is buying a new bay front home back in NJ. He works for Exxon !!
Sorry for the gas rant but this is getting out of control.

Whoops, Fred you missed my point. That was the price in the soviet in '99. IN CDN dollars. You cannot make a fair comparison by doing the exchange. When I was there I was underpaid and over-taxed in CDN $$. Not US $$. Down here, I make more, get taxed WAYYYYY less, pay far less for EVERYTHING, and I have 2nd Amendment rights.
GOD BLESS AMERICA
The current gas price in Vancouver BC, where I used to live, is 98.5 cents/l That's $3.73 CDN for a US gal just for grins: w/ today's exchange rate (.72), that would be $2.68 USD

That probably explains why you see (past tense for me) so many BC lic. plates in Blaine, etc., Washington. Our gas prices have now passed through $2.30.9; two stations on a major freeway off ramp in north Ashland have it pegged at $2.45.9 for regular unleaded.
Sheesh ... and Hal, at those prices forget shipping me the 55 gallon drums. :>)

Delta area ... now Twassen (sp?) The family 'homestead' is now a super market complex, etc.
:>(
But great place to 'grow up;' nothing but woods and my Cus. Pete and I were like a couple of 'wild Indians.' Grand Father would take the two of us out in the morning and build a fire. Spent the rest of the day boiling cans of water, peeing into bottles for 'poison' to tip our hand made arrows.
Right across the street was an old Indian burial ground (long since picked clean as there's a condo complex on it now). Would search for 'artifacts;' I never found a darned thing but Pete had a nose for it. Arrow heads to jaw bones.

Wayyy too many coincidences here. My inlaws live in Tsawwassen. I worked a couple of construciton projects there as well. We've got a number of friends who grew up there, but very few who can afford to still live there as yougn couples. (Most of em move to Langley, Maple Ridge etc.) The last place we lived before moving down here was Ladner. I think I might have worked on the condo complex you're talking about.
When we finally do meet, it'll be a hoot.

Oops sorry, my mistake looks like this is now the former canadian resident's thread. The income taxes have to be high up there last I checked there was only 32 million people in Canada to pay the taxes. Heck theres probably more than that in NYS alone. Chicago area has 7-8 million I believe.

Hal, the numbers are probably off .. but think California has a greater population than all of Canada.
We are a 'small but mighty race of men and women.' Or as Garrison K. would say: " all the men are strong, the women ... etc. (Or something like that.)
Poop: as this thread deals with the Sandy River 'Clave (next weekend) I'll have a ton of photo's on the weekend early (early next week). Joan uses her web-shots album pages for this;will post the link when they been up-loaded.
:>)

The above will take you to photo's of previous 'Claves, events, etc.
