Well, calling it a "woodstock" maybe a tad over done, but the Sandy 'Clave was the first of it's kind and still the largest going in the world. First one (we expected 30-40 folks and had well over 100 attend) was a bit of a 'flyer,' 'a one of a kind?
Last year there were over 750 people!!

You'll have to take that title up with Bachman, since it's straight from him... Alreasy a few hardy souls up from California camping at Oxbow for the Clave. Taking the best spots and learning the lay of the river.

Are you ready for the 'onslot' this weekend? And before I forget, how's the (fish) run doing at the upper end of the park by the boat ramp? I'll be there flogging the water for a few extra days with my spey rods.

I'm really gonna try and make it. I at least want that free meal, and I also want to try the loomis dredger rod and one of the R.B. Meiser rods. If I like the Meiser, I'll buy a blank and put it together.

Trust me! Once you've cast a Meiser Rod ... it's "somewhat like sex" .... you don't want to give it up. :>)
Being one of Bob's 'test bed casters' (I'm the guy who actually takes them out to fish) even his 'near misses' are great rods. After several folk have given their input on what they like/don't like, he'll adjust the rod to fit.
As most of us have different casting styles/preferences must be interesting sorting it out on his end.
Wiser?, noticed the park entery fee's up 33% (to $4.00)(Mark's web site) or is that a miss-print?

Actually, Willie Gunn's back in Bamff, Scotland. But while he was here he/I had two new Meiser 18' proto rods to play with on the lower Rogue (chasing spring kings with sinking lines). Both went back to Scotland 'for further field testing.' Suspect one, or another version of same, will end up being the Willie Gunn Special.
Actually, the 'FES' has gone through at least two 'evolutions' since I got mine (the first of the first). Actually, the new one is a far better casting/fishing rod.

7/8 13' 6" MKS
Carron Jetstream (Dry Line) on MKS was a rocket ship it can down right through the whole line. I feel it is a better tip-line I used four different types (tapers) and of course my was the best (had to say that).
Light weight and the dampening the rod has makes it so good; no extra movements!
For a rod for are area (PNW) it doesn’t have a length problem at all and it can handle a variety lines from dry to tip-line. They have been working on this series for a while now.
Then you have the looks of the rod, nobody makes a better looking spey rod, one look and you will fall in love with it then you cast it and it’s over.
Looking at the size of fish that every one catches (5 to 14 lbs.) this will be the rod.
You can cast whole series MKS & Highlanders; Miesers Rod every Saturday morning in Carnation.

The MKS series was designed with direction from Mike Kinney, and are named after him.
The MKS rods are all based on the Skagit style family of two-handed rods, all with fast/medium fast recovery progressive actions.
The Skagit style of rod taper starts with a very fast recovery, powerful top end.. Progressing, and increasing in power through the taper as it heads towards to the bottom two-thirds of the blank. >From this point the taper slows a bit, to allow the caster a friendly connection to sense loading well into the grip.

Mike K's forte' is fishing river/current seams ... and this group of rods was designed with that in mind. Heavy heads, even at very short range are 'a piece of cake' with these rods.
As noted above, where they really shine is with the short 'Skagit head' systems. RIO has one out now, gather Airflo may also (or will shortly). Ran one of these off a new Sage 7wt 14' spey this past weekend .... WOW!! to both the rod (no, I'm not going to look and see what this bad boy costs) and line were a perfect match.
The MKS group of rods are also a wonderfull group of rods to play with ... all-be-it ... I found a couple that (personal casting here only) didn't turn me on that much.
But if 'head systems' is where it's at for you ... these could well be your 'babies.'

I thought the Airflo Skagit heads cast pretty nice. They are not available as yet but are in production according to Rajeffs so I'm hoping it is soon. They will cost $75.00 including a 200grn Custom Cut Tip but running line is not included. They are loop on both ends.

Thanks for the info I am admittedly behind the curve on spey gear.. Someday i will get my hands on one of those nice sticks/lines when I visit a clinic. Until then I don't see $800 flying out of my pocket on a test run. Good ole single hander till I get off my lazy butt to build a rod I won't be happy with.

Marty a MKS 13'6"-7/8 will not cost you $800.00. You can get one for under $600.00 and they are "sweet" sticks. That being said there are some pretty nice rods around for much less. Some to look at are the 12'6"-8wt TFO with a 7/8 Delta ($250.00), CND Expert 1308 with a 6/7 or 7/8 Delta ($325.00), or the Echo 13'-7/8 ($270.00) that will be out soon.

River Run Anglers in Carnation has a testing days every Saturday morning. You can test drive over 50 different rods and lines each week at NO cost!

Ah yes ..... her first 'sit' behind the wheel of the 'new-new' one. Joan's 'version' of the facts have been altered to suit her needs ....
Took her about 50 yards to 'met the tree' ... and just short of $6,000 in damage. The next conversation went to the effect: "why didn't you tell me we were too close to the tree?" My answer was" What part of STOP!!!!!!!!!!! didn't you understand?" "But you weren't clear on what you said." "You've GOT to be kidding??" Etc., and etc.
Fun part was I handed her my cell phone so she could call USAA and get the claim started. "No YOU call them and tell them about 'OUR' accident." "Our??? Accident???"
At that point I dialed the number and handed her the phone and shut up (what the hell, I was already 'behind the curve.' No point in making it worse ... for me ... or her.
