New Spey Board = Spey Line
      #192926 - 06/26/05 10:20 AM

fyi

Started up in beginning of year, has a drawing at 100 members for the Bloke spey rod (love that name !), I have been waiting months for the drawing, at least register for the board and get in the drawing so that can be done with, I feel lucky again !!

Spey Line

I see Willie Gunn is a moderator there, think he gave up on me when I admitted using my spey rod with an fly Indicator setup, which appears to be an untraditional way of using the traditional scottish spey tackle. But now that spey tackle has gone world wide who is to say what is traditional any more ?

I am registered under a different user name on this board so don't look for BG.

If memory serves (from the UK flyfishingforum board) "Bloke Rods" are somewhat atuned to the RB Meiser rods. Each is individually made for the purchaser.

Gather they're a very nice "bit o kit."

Just register so they do this spey rod drawing soon I have been waiting since March of this year. Makes me wonder how many spey rodders there are in Europe these days, there may be more over here in North America !! Spey Line is the only euro spey board I am aware of at this time.

My "spey abyss" is over, LOL, I am now into the fly fishing "saltwater abyss" and the "bass abyss", always new frontiers to conquer along life's fly fishing continuum.

Just make you sure you all register on that board so we can finally get this Bloke rod drawing out of the way. Its gone on way too long.

Now I wonder why you'd say a thing like that? Given a choice, I's still go for the young lady in the House of Hardy posters. Gather she's an employee in one of their plants in the UK.

Talking to the Hardy folks at the Sandy River Spey 'Clave .. it's working out VERY WELL indeed. Apparently they get several hundered requests per month for a copy of their 'poster girl.'

I suspect it's working out quite 'profitably' for them; her???

Mike, I'm completely lost too on what the heck that was about. The 'gotta be a 2-hander' is the line I use under my name on the Spey Pages. So what that has to do with BG is a further loss to me.

PM's been in private moderation mode for over 6 months which means no one can view their posts until an ADMIN reviews and approves them. Thought PM would have figured this out by now since no one has been responding to their posts.

Internet trolls who attempt to disrupt the forumn community are not tolerated. All are remined to read the rules for this forumn posted in the sticky header above.

Now back to serious fly fishing talk .

Back to Fly-fishing talk new [Re: Black_Ghost]
      #194817 - 07/07/05 08:15 PM

OK - I'll bite
I had lots of hits from small 'bows and Dollies on the wknd on a fly I picked up at the shop, but completely forgotten the name of the fly. It was a brass cone head on a long straight shank hook, with off-white fur (not polar) and a bit of flash. It drifted beautifully in the gin clear water between the boulders I was working. I had no problem picking it up and casting with the 6wt Rainshadow I built last yr. I love that rod, it's so forgiving of my thrash style.
I guess it looked like a small whitefish or something, because, even the lil 10"'s were trying to hit it. The largest I got to hand was a nice lil 14".
Anyone have any ideas what the fly might be called? I'll post a pic tomorrow if I can remember to. (I'm at the office now)

More serious talk:
How much use is a 'shortened' 6wt Floating linear line? I had a new SA line on that got wrapped under some rocks, and by the time I got to it, the water had pushed it under far enough that I had to cut it off. I didn't try to cast it after that and don't really know how much is left (maybe 20yds?), as that was to be my last cast anyway, and I had to head back up the mtn to the car. I do most of my casting on a small fast river (N. Fork of the Sky, if you know the water) and it's not a huge issue. I have other lines and reels so I'm not completely lost, but my budget is tight, and I'm cheap, so I'm wondering if I can still use it?

One more, just for fun, although it should be a new thread...What kind of line/flies to bring with me on a 1wk trip to a large lake in N. Cal? I'll look up the lake, but I'm guessing it's mostly lakers and bass.

All may not be lost. Is/was the line a WF or a DT and how much did you loose?

Cut back heads like this were the original sinking head lines (hand built). If there's enough line/head left you may be able to put a loop on the end and use it with short sinking poly leaders.

Linear - no taper.

Hey Fred, I'll be driving through your next of the woods next week. We're probably gonna grab a hotel somewhere in S. Or, but haven't finalized plans yet. I'm thinking Grant's Pass or such. We've got relatives in Portland that we need to drop in to see, so that may change the sched a bit....
