Tproblem is Valetines day. Its also my anniversary. Hmmm, the wife is starting to take an interest in fly fishing. Maybe bringing this up won't be such a bad thing.

My advise is don't go to these unless you have $ 500 - $ 1,000 of disposable income to invest in the spey rod, reel and line you are bound to fall in love with, like I did.

Go spey fly fishing instead away from this river and get Fred Evans video from it. It will be cheaper in the long run for you, beleive me.

Ah ... BG, you just don't understand. You take your wife with you to these, she sees how much fun your having, the comaraderie (which she will soon get sucked into!), etc.

Best part is that if you do deside (no equipment is sold at any of these 'Claves)is at least you'll know you're going to end up with exactly the right rod-reel-line you want. And you can have some of the worlds best spey casters give YOU time on the water if what you've got isn't working.

Frequently, one of these guys can pick up a rod/line and say: 'here's your problem ... and it's not you.' Exit frustration.

Should add: I've had the opportunity to meet the majority of the fellows mentioned above. To a man, they are really great guys just to know. It's about a 10 hour drive (one way) but Joan and I are heading up to the Sky. Haven't fished this river since 1984.

BG, I'm in the process of teaching my wife to fly fish. I have if figured that if she can go with me I'll get to go more often. Only problem I'm having right now is that when I mentioned this I got a "Fly fishing is not my life," from her.

But I have a month!! LOL

Fred will be easy to spot! He's the guy casting farther than anyone else with his Meiser "Fred Evans Special". Hell, he even takes it to bed and to the bathroom, too, "just in case"!

Just wonder how many people will be there. What you have to do Bob is just hop on a plane and go to Oregon and then ride up here with Fred. But just leave Hal at home. I wouldn't want to see him drool at all of the good casters there. I guess that I will have to show up and maybe I can pick up a few good pointers as to what the heck I'm doing wrong. But I really should go see Aaron and maybe he can help me or just shoot me. Going there tomorrow just to shoot the breeze and have some one smarter than me to talk to.

Well, it won't be hard to 'pck us out of the crowd.' Just got word that our new 32 foot motor home was delivered to the dealer yesterday morning. Bit of 'spit and polish' by them, and we pick same up Friday morning.
Best yet, one of the WWFFF board members has a lovely home/big driveway in Monore. We've hooked up with him for the over night stay.

Jim Jones will be up with us so you'll also get to meet another 'local hero.'
:>)

And, no .... I don't take the rods to bed ... but then again, I never take them out of the Lexus either. One never knows where one might be 'around lunch time.'

I will be looking forward to the video and post spey clave report.

There will be a lot of people there based on the past pictures of I have seen of WA spey claves, out here in GL country there may be 10-20 people and they are from all GLs states and Canada. Spey fellows are few and far between here the way I like it.

Fred I will pay handsomely for the video in you know what.

I continue to study the Sandy River one, as we are the lonely speyers here in the GLs. In the last two years I have met two while I was fishing on the river.

Jimmie spent so many days with Joan and I, I finally said why don't you get a life and 'screw' Southern Kalifornia and move north. Darned if he didn't. A couple of weekends with a Realtor friend; review a few (lots?) of listing, a little lets look at this/that .. and the moving van was in opperation.

Great Guy; darned glad to count him as a close Friend.

Well, first trip out to count ' fix this!' new [Re: fredaevans]
      #96708 - 01/19/04 07:26 PM

Very few 'ah nuts.' A good thing; but a couple of 'this will cost the dealer more than a few bucks.

Shake Down Cruise #1 behind us. End result than getting dumped on rain wise was one nice native buck turned loose, one airborne break off, one missed WACK! (and how do you miss a fish that hits that hard????????????)

New "water proof" rain coat is anything but. Great weekend. New Puppy is CRASHED below my desk; one tired camper .. and so an I.

Joan and I were on the Chetco River in SW Oregon. new [Re: Black_Ghost]
      #97090 - 01/22/04 02:35 PM

(Brookings, OR) If you 'rv' over there, the best place to stay is the rv park called "at river's edge." Park (and we've been going there since the mid 80's) sits on top of the best steelhead water in the bottom end of the river.

They're just about at the end of 'tide water' 1.5 miles up from the river mouth. So twice per day you get these 'huge' water flucuations. Fish come in with the tide, screw around in front of you and as tide drops, they have to figure out to go out ... or go up stream. The huge gravel bar at the top end is a fly fisher's paradise. Couldn't ask for better.

Hit it about 3pm for winter fishing. Frequently you can stand there and watch them swim by!!! Joan shots some pictures so should have these posted to her 'web-shots' site. Will post url when they're up for review.

The 'new toy' ... well, counting Poochie, two new toys.

BobK

One of the photo's also shows the water at the top end of 'At rivers edge' RV park. The first pool is called 'Tide water.' Twice per day the tide will back up into the river this far (about 1.5 miles up from the mouth) and the fish will sit in the deep water in the foreground.

Tide drops and they've got two choices. Back out .. or up into a 400 yard stretch of the most perfect fly water you could immagine.

Let us GLs speyers know what the hot new models are under $ 400 in a 8/9 weight 14 footer. The only spey clave out here this year is Mothers day weekend plus it looks like I will travelling for work out of the country (Germany) the week before that so even going on saturday is out for me.

Plus its still good spring steelheading then which I would rather be doing at my favorite holes.
