Went to the Spey Clave yesterday on the Skykomish. Which, for those of you who didn't, or couldn't, go it was an excellent event. Lot of big name spey casters there that really put out alot of info. Highlights were Simon Gawsworth and George Cook. They put out a lot of info in terms we all could understand. Plus, besides telling you what you SHOULD do, they told/showed you how you possibly could be doing stuff wrong. Saw plenty of techniques that I was doing wrong by matching up to how their casts looked. Was an eye opener and stuff I haven't found on any videos. Great event.
Onto Fred. Finally got to meet Fred. This gentleman (and mean that literally) is as warm hearted in person as he is on the net. Was nice to meet a dear friend I've corresponded with for years. Plus, he's one helluva spey caster as well. After a great day at the clinic we (with 2 other friends from another board), we all sat down over nice smooth Macmallan scotch and BS'd for a couple hours. Was a great time. Wish I could've went to the get together after the event, but had Valentine's duties.
Fred, when you get home, know you're still up on the Sky, but may take you up on the offer for the Spey Clinic you put on. Would love to hang out if anything again.

Yeah... though I never met him, I can tell he is a true "gentleman" with a heart of gold, and a fantastic sense of humor. And, from the sound of it, his lovely wife is a jewel, too!
Thanks for the report, Jerry. Even though I can't be out there, maybe someday I can con the "war department" into a trip west. It might just change her mind about where to live....
P.S. So far this winter, we officially have 103 inches of snow. whoopee...

"Fred, when you get home, know you're still up on the Sky, but may take you up on the offer for the Spey Clinic you put on. Would love to hang out if anything again."
The 'round trip' was (true) 5 miles short of 1,000 miles in the new RV. Trip up, other than light rain was 'no big deal.' Going home! Much of it, for you boaters, was small craft warnings, to whole gale. 11 hours to do 500 miles in driving rain/wind .. and some of it sweat under the arm pits driving.
But, me .. hell I'm just another Canadian. Jerry as well as others who've I've corresponded with for years and FINALLY got to meet.... truely great, wonderful folk.
Jerry, if you want to do this/next years Charity clinic, you're 'compted.' Which means you help me with the on river details .. a few buck to cover your food .. and the rest is 'on me.'
We all get to meet great people (some times/this time FINALLY!!) we're blessed to meet. 2 Seconds flat and we're in huge hugs.
BS aside, you all have a treat in store when you really get to meet Jerry in person; what you 'read, is what you've got.' Jerry (above being beside the point, but true) anytime you want to come south, the bed has freah sheets, the pillows are fluffy ...
HUGS!!!!

Fred, you are truly a gentleman. Only in fishing do we meet people like you.
BTW, you've got to realize that with that big-arsed flat side to the wind, that RV is a "small craft" at a minimum! Take care of yourself!

Yeah, Jerry - same color I use back east. Nice neutral color that is a form of Camo, especially when you've got evergreens as background.
(If Hal doesn't weart a green rain jacket, then he must be buying one of those "cheap, made in Cambodia" imitations! - It figures....)

LOL Fred. Well, as I told guys there that day (I was ONLY one in shorts) I'm one of those crazy UPS drivers. I wear shorts all year. I don't have ONE pair of long pants issued to me. Even in snowstorms, I wear shorts. Just a little longer socks and my heavier boots. LOL. My trunk usually is only thing to get cold. My arms, legs, head usually stay toasty warm all year. Summer, when it's hot, I suffer BADLY.

Mines a nice spruce blue just for the record, blends in with the backgrounds nice like the sky and gray clouds etc.
Pouring rain fred well thats life in the PNW from what my internet friends, family members who lived in Seattle for 12 years tell me. Bet you have more cloudy days there then we do here in Chicago. But If I was a 100 miles to the east onthe west side of lake michigan the cloudy days probably double. I know I lived over there for 6 years in South Bend big difference due to the way the winds come out of the NW over lake Michigan.
Nice picture though fellows.
Maybe some day we will all meet up togehter in one big flyfishing internet clave. I have lots of frequent flyer miles to use yet just need the open time.

Hey Jerry,
What with the new avatar, and is that a big beer bottle ?
I just noticed the change from the Wynooche Dark Spey. I have mine put away in my boxes secured.
I may have some of Willie Gunns single malt, BTW, I am all out of that now !
