Went goose hunting today, and even though it was sunny, the goose gods smiled on us. We ended up taking 6 nice Westerns between three guys. Not bad for no decoys.
Poor Jake had to retrieve them all, three from the Columbia River.
Here is a shot of my two. The tape measure between the two shows a length of 36 inches. They each weighed in at 12 pounds. The four breasts filled a gallon ziplock bag.
It was a nice way to end the season!

Right on Dogfish!
I've never hunted geese, but I imagine it's fun. So I'm wondering how do you prepare them and how do they eat?

Nice birds there Andy. And "poor Jake"? I'll bet he was loving every minute of it! I need to get back into waterfowling when I get back to the world.

Sounds like a great day. What is the largest goose you have shot? I shot one once that weighed 17 lbs. on the bathroom scale. The guy whose property it was on was gonna have it stuffed.

Shane,
I fix my geese as Goose Jerky. I use the "wild game" jerky recipe in the Little Chief cookbook. It is tasty. I have yet to find any recipe or preparation for wild goose that everyone likes, but this is close.
Bux,
These are my biggest geese to date, before the geese I have taken were usually taken Tavs, Vancouvers, or Cacklers.
I only hunt a few times a year for geese, usually the late season, and I used Hevishot, #4's, in 3" and 3.5" lengths.
The only bad part about the hunt was carrying these guys back to the truck, a half mile away.
