Early hummers

Lots of competition at the feeders already. Seems like it's two to three weeks too soon for these little guys? Still haven't seen any violet green swallows.

No hummers at my feeder yet Aunty, though with the wild currant just beginning their bloom, I expect them any day. Like you, no violet green swallow sighting as yet though generally in my area we don't see them until about the second week of April, depending on weather. I did have some chicadees exploring one of my nesting boxes and a Bewicks wren couple going in and out of another.

Thanks for the reminder. Just once, I'd like to have the feeder ready for the hummers when they show up. It's amazing how they come looking for food right where the feeder was hanging the previous year. Only unusual bird sighted around here this week was a pileated woodpecker.

correction, Aunty! Hundreds of violet green swallows arrived yesterday, flitting over Silver Lake, Evt.

just FYI, have not seen a single hummingbird here in Korea. I need a Petersens' field guide to birds in Korea, can't even find a decent one on line.

My swallows finally showed up yesterday.

This year, a Calliope female has established her dominance at the porch feeders and the Rufous females are getting beaten up regularly. The show is pretty funny. She sits in a tree nearby chirping and watching all day long. I may have to name her.
