There are some in the potholes lakes. I have seen them in the Columbia by the Tricities. Personally I am not familiar with any lakes in Western Washington with any. There must be one..? Corn and dough balls seem to be popular baits. Carp fishing is a art in itself to be a good at. Hard fighting large fish....just not good eaters. If you can't get them to bite you can shoot them with a bow.

There are triploid (3 sets of chromosomes) carp that I hear are going to be put into Lake Sutherland to control the milfoil problem. Since they are triploids they are sterile and will not over-populate the lake. I'm not sure if the carp are in there right now or what the deal is. Triploid carp should get big though.

no carp at this time. They did just find a noxious milfoil weed that they were going to have to control. Its unfortunate it has made its way into the lake. Going to polish up on some carp skills locally if they get thick

The stirile carp you are talking about are called grass carp and you are not allowed to fish for them. Silver lake has them. If you want carp, fish moses lake, it is infested with them. Its not uncommon to foul hook 5 0r 10 while fishing rattle traps in the spring on any given day. If you really want to catch them dough ball is the way to go.Every lake in E,WA that isn,t a trout only lake that I have fished has carp in it. The shallower the lake the more the more they seem to have.

I have a place at Silver Lake and I hope that they dont put as many grass carp in as they did at Silver Lake 86,000, they ruined the lake because they ate all the cover the first year, and they will live for 11 years or longer. Now we have great big bassup to 13+ and not many small to take the place of the big ones as they die on old age .

In the Seattle area, Green Lake, Sammamish, and Washington have big carp. I hear that Green Lake is infested with them, and some folks fish for them regularly with the standard dough balls, corn, etc.

I have seen enormous carp in Lake Washington, but have never fished for them or see people fishing for them on a regular basis.

About 4 years ago, I caught an enormous carp in Lake Samm. I am guessing that it was between 20-25 lbs. I was fishing for bass, and this thing inhaled my plastic grub. It was just a tiny tap-tap on the bite. I thought it was a small perch and set the hook. Next thing you know, my line is melting off my reel. It took me about a half hour to land it, and I let it go. It was the biggest ugliest fish I have ever seen, but one hell of a fight on a 6-ft trout rod with 8-lb test.

Tapps, Washington, Sammamish, Black, Green, all of the Columbia, Snake, Walla Walla, Yakima rivers just to get started. Most all of Eastern Washington. Carp are the most popular game fish in the world. They supposedly have the best eye sight of any fish in fresh water. Try Wheaties cereal. Add just enough water to make a sticky bait size ball. I've caught them on everything by accident, crankbaits, plastics, jigs and even Rapala minnows on the top. Really hard to catch on purpose, very spooky. Good fight on the right gear and you have a reasonable chance at fish from 20 to 60 pounds on almost any day.
I thought that at one time they outlawed the use of Corn for chum or bait in Washington. It can't be digested by fish (or people) plugs up the system and kills fish. It used to be a concern with the Trout and Kokanee fishermen.

I caught one that was 38 pounds in the Okanogan river when I was a kid on a trout rod. I took forever but did manage to land it. Was a battle not sure of time frame but was long. So beware they do fisht very hard. When mine first hit I would compare to a Steelhead in that system it took off straight across river.

I think using corn as bait on a hook is perfectly legal, whereas chumming with any type of material is generally outlawed except where specifically authorized (such as Lake WA). There is no specific prohibition on the use of corn as chum in the printed WA regs, and so absent that prohibition or other readily-ascertainable prohibition printed elsewhere in the WAC, RCW, etc., it is up to the discretion of the angler to decide whether they wish to chum with corn. I have heard of chummers running corn through the blender, in order to make the stuff more easily digestible by the fishies, but I do not know if it helps.

I recall seeing on TV once, where the fishermen were chumming with cooked oatmeal (I think) by putting oatmeal balls in sling shots and shooting the stuff out onto the water.

In Europe they use those sling shots alot. Make this stuff they call "maize" or something. They use corn and lots of sweet flavoring. Carp are not that easy to catch on purpose, especially in clear water like Banks Lake.

OK.. I've put off replying to this for a few days. When I lived in the Phonex area, we would fish for carp at night at the lakes. My friend's father made a chum out of corn and who knows what. It was pretty nasty smelling stuff. I hated having to throw out the chum. This was legal in AZ at the time. I know corn is illegal to use for any purpose in MA. Ar any rate.....

I would use my fly rod for fun. I would pull out forty or so feet and lay it out behind me. I would then sling the line out into the the chum area and wait. When I say the carp were big I mean BIG!. 40lbs plus are very common. It can take over an hour to land one of those babies. There is nothing like catching a fish that size on light line (6lb test tippet). You never heard about anyone fishing for the carp. It is a great activity to do in the summer at night. That is when the carp get really active. I've seen schools of carp in some of the rivers below the lakes. Huge 40lb fish cruising in large groups.

One year fishing on lake Powell, I had a small 3lb carp hit a rattlin hot spot. That is the only time I've caught a carp when I wasn't trying to get one.
