Yes I do. Don't get out enough for those species. I usually use artificials for the rock fish. Cabezon are also a target. I also use live sole and frozen/fresh squid depending on what I have around. Usually, I have all the above to pick from. I really like artificials with scent for the rock fish/cabezon/lings. In fact, we are looking into manufacturing jigs for lings and cabezon. We currently sell squid jigs and believe many of of materials will work for these specieis. I have cought some of the largest sole when jigging for squid.

I'm just a little further south from you in the QCIs for the summer, I did the same last summer and some of the guides I spoke to said that they work great, I have heard nothing but good things about the Gibbs Mudraker jig. Also, I've used Buzz bombs in the past for rockfish with productive results. I would guesss that they would work just as well for Halibut in the larger sizes of lure.

Hands down, I think Norwegian Stainless Steel Jigs are the best for halibut in AK. Just replace the treble with a oversized J style hook or a circle hook. Believe it or not a big halibut will hold onto a 14 oz jig long enought for the circle hook to turn in. The circle hook also prevents little guy from getting hooked.

on the norwegians try an 8" purple or rootbeer worm. just be carefull buts like to lay on a jig some times so if you think you have a barndoor and it comes to the boat side ways dont be suprised. a realy good tip is to put a size 8 spinner blade at the top to realy make some noise. it realy works down here even in 700'.

Was it two years ago when a kid caught a butt (aprox 80lb) from his canoe at CQ? He was right out infront of Olson's or the Coho. Pretty shallow. Lucky the fish didn't take him to Canada, EH

I landed a 135 lb'er suspend at about 30 feet over 60 feet of water using a buzz bomb...halibut aren't exclusively bottom fish!
