With last rod I still make my sink-tip lines the same way, with Ed style sink-tips (136 146 grains)
This rod took 430 450 grain head (Skagit Line) really will. Casting it in pretty good winds.
Now the dry line: SA Spey Short Head 6/7 47ft. head 450 grains Windcutter 6/7/8 546 head 455 grains Hardy Mach 1 9/10 47.5ft head 463 grains Rio Midspey 6/7 65ft. head 490 grains
I like the SA line the best; I use it in some real windy condition.

This is getting to be fun!

Thanks for the info. I know some guys here would love some of Bob's rods. I know I surely do. We need to get him over here.

Bob Meiser will be up here in the near future. He will be at Aaron's shop (River Run Anglers) one Saturday shortly. I find out which Saturday in the next couple days.

Your sure these numbers are correct? Ask only from the point of reference that that sounds like darned few 'grains' for a line rated "9/10." Huge exception to that (and maybe Hardy's doing the same thing?) are the Carron lines which actually follow the AFTMA 'regs' for line weights. (In context, the Carron 10-11 ... a SWEETHEART of a line even if grossly over priced ($130 USD!!!!) ... is usually a 'perfect match' for a 8 or 9 wt. rated spey rod.)

Wow! Especially when you compare them (your other post) to 'competitor's lines.'
Welcome to the world of 'spey.'

its almost comical to see the HUGE spread in grains of lines. Talk about NO standard line ratings.. fun facts.

Marty, repeating myself from another post ... but trust me! there's nothing "funny" about it. It's a f..ing zoo.
