800 number for Rogue river information.
      #124281 - 07/22/04 12:53 PM

'Out side of our area' most folks don't know that there's an 800 number where you can get the 'latest' fish counts over Gold Ray dam (just north of Medford) that covers fish entering the top 30 miles of the river. The info can be quite dated (which usually means a h*ll of a lot of fish!) but the stream flow info is always current.

800 472 2434

The number (as I recall) can be accessed nationally.

Thanks for the # Fred.
I havent ever fished the upper Rogue, I grew up fishing the lower river though. Spent many weeks in Agness. I caught my first Salmon on the Rogue, a springer with my grandfather at age 10. Ive caught a ton of 1/2 pounders and few fall chinook.

Last year I went to Agnes for the first time in over 15 years. I took a good friend and we fished at Coon Rock bridge and the mouth of the Illinois. We caught a bunch of steelies. It was good to get back down there. This fall we are going to float from Agness to Quasatna(SP) creek and do some side drifting.

BE SURE! you check on road access to Agnes. The main road from I-5 west bound (Merlin down the Rogue and over the hill) is closed due to a major land slide. To get to Agnes you may have to drive all the way into Gold Beach and come east from the under end.

I always go to Agness from Powers. I used to live in Myrtle Point and I still spend a lot of time down there. Its shorter for me to hit 42 off of I-5 then go over the hill from Powers. Its a nice drive over from Powers, paved most of the way. If you feel like being adventurous you can take the old goat trail from top and come out at Foster Bar.

Great Point!! Forgotten all about this road; been over it on several occations "waaaaay in the past." You folks can probably get there hours sooner than we in the Ashland/Medford area.

Will have to check the milage on a map to see if driving up I-5 then dropping back down vs. all the way over 199, up to Gold Beach and over is the 'shorter way.'

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
