I'll be visiting family in the Milwaukee area in later part of August. Anyone have any ideas of how the fishing will be then [Lake Michigan or any of the inland lakes], and/or any suggestions in that regard?
Spent alot of childhood hours filling stringers with perch on the lake front, but I know that has all changed dramatically over the years.

If our weather remains cool like it has been the salmon could be running early in the Milwaukee and other rivers into Lake Michigan. Late august will be too early for steelhead. I have a good link of all wisconsin rivers and will post it.
The inland lakes of course are always a good option for smallmouth, large mouth, as well as Musky if you are up to it.

This weekly report also includes some wisconsin lake michigan and inland waters. I think you are going to luck out as all signs are of an early salmon run this year. Ever throw hardware (spoons) at a river mouth at night or first light is best, when you hook one you may get spooled if not in a boat.

Haven't tried that - sounds like it'd take your breath away getting into one of those hawgs on light tackle. In the past, when I was able to give it a shot - bank fishing the Milwaukee Harbor area, the salmon didn't provide the action. Instead it was a brown trout show with my biggest being 16-lb, most caught on shiners.

Far as the salmon runs go BG is right we will be getting the runs coming in the rivers earlier than normal here in Michigan. We had a very strange spring/early summer here in the GL area and as of right now the weather pattern we have had recently has pushed the warm waters out from the river mouths farther out into the lakes and the rivers are running a bit color because of that so the salmon are staging closer to the mouths. The salmon runs "usally" heat up pretty good on the lake Michigan streams about the 2nd week of september but with the weather i'd would say they are going to be running about 2 weeks ahead of normal.
