The Brides Bream
      #127585 - 08/06/04 08:36 AM

Does anybody know a good recipe for Bream? My wife caught a two pounder the other day and we didn't know if they were good to eat or not so we let it go. Later somebody told her they are good to eat if fixed right. Wife said leave the net home and that way we'll need it, I said bring the camera but she didn't...well we did use the net but right now she would love to have a photo of her and that big bream to show her third graders when school starts, they learn about fishing this year...we try again on Sunday and bring the camera this time. Peace, Scott and Hanna

Soak them fillets for one hour in buttermilk, dunk them in Krusteaz Pancake mix and them fry them up. Simple, but very good.

Thanks for the advice guys. Hopefully we'll catch another one soon so we can try it. It's been pretty hot here in Finland and the fishing is slowing down a bit. Peace, SJ

This is not ours as we did not have the camera with us but it looked just like this, wifes says its a bream, I think its an odd looking carp. Our sights are set more on pike and perch now. Peace, SJ

It's not a carp and it sure isn't the American Bream/Bluegill.

actually that is a carp or member of the carp family. Europe has many different species of carp.

Bream

-versus-

Carp

Different Genus, different Species. Not the same fish. Strike 2... Keep trying.

whatever.... My grandfather was born and raised in England and lived their until 1998 and he fished in many carp/bream tournaments. I got my information from him because he said in the tournaments carp and bream were put in the same category. You must obviously be right though, maybe I should have taken the time to go find some scientific bs instead of listening to my grandfather.

I also fish tournaments and I think I understand your confusion. Carp and Bream were in the same catagory as far as the tournament was concerned, same as Largemouth, Smallmouth and Spotted Bass are all in the same "Bass" catagory for a tournament, but not they are not the same fish. If you asked your Grandfather, you would probably find several species allowed in the "Carp/Bream Catagory".
