Cedar Creek is producing some nice fish. Tuesday morning there were 5 fish landed out of roughly 20 hooked (must be this nice cloud cover and cooler temps were finally getting). I haven't been down there myself, but be forewarned, I hear there's lots of rods down there, and all the extra help keeping that place picked up is appreciated.
Will have more updates to come. Check back periodically.

I heard they were pulling fish out of Pipeline yesterday morning so I thought I'd give it a try last evening and lo and behold the water was full of silt. I still ended up heading down to see if anyone was having luck, but not a thing landed though there was some activity.
Going to tackle it this evening.

Sounds like the sandy is going to dirty for awhile. The crazy weather we have been getting the last few days has caused it to be warmer up on the mountian than it is down low. The snow is really melting off.
You could always fish the Columbia if you realy need to get into some fish. The Summer chinooks are showing in good #'s and the Steelhead are there too.

Water finally cleared up and running low. Lot's of fresh springers to be had (my freezer is already full), just get out on the water and find 'em. Lot's of fish rolling around during the evenings.
Does anyone know why a springer would have a greenish tint in skin color? Never seen anything like it before. Anyone else pull any of these out?

Still low, but not cloudy yet, so it's still fishable, if you don't scare the fish away first. Had a few rolling at Cedar Creek yesterday evening but nothing was biting.

It's getting warm on the Sandy, and the clarity is dropping to below 2'. Too many anglers out there yesterday screwing with my favorite hole, so I ended up not really fishing at all but made it worthwhile to pick up some trash. Bright Springers are still in there, nabbed a nice 30# buck on Sat drifting a #4 Gammi, size 12 pearl corkie and about 1/2" of black yarn. Black spinners (I prefer 4's, but 3's work great too), in the evenings, are also working great in sunny tailouts for Summers.

I'm giving up for like a week until the water clears back up and the water temp drops. Curious if anyone else can catch any fish this week/weekend.

Still having glacial meltoff so the water clarity is hit and miss. Tons of bright hatchery summers in the system currently and some late colorful springers. Tailouts are still your best bet in about 3-4' of water. May take some time spotting for fish, but if you try the upper river, you shouldn't have any difficulty at that right now. Spinners are working well as usual, but they're hitting the drifts pretty hard right now as well and I'm liking the black yarn, #12 pearl Corky combo.

Mostly been fishing the upper river with spinners. Saturday hooked into 5 fish, landed 2 nates. Sunday hooked into one native and landed. And last night I fished the milky white water, and foul hooked a hatchery summer, and released it. So it's been rough going lately, and hopefully it picks up a little.

I tried at Dabney Park yesterday afternoon, one guy told me to head upstream and try "the rockpile." Pulled a Stee-lee through it for a while then tried a jig & bobber. Nothing happened but that doesn't mean they weren't in there. Water was sort of dingy-green and cloudy. Had the hole all to myself except for the coyote I spooked when I clomped out of the bushes. Just wondering if that area should be any good right about now...with the rain this morning and all. I'd like to head up again after work today (friday). Thanks, marc c. portland, or

My opinion is that anything below Dodge is too warm for much Steelhead action right now. There's a ton of fish in there, it's just a matter of getting them to bite/chase your offering. I might give up on the Sandy for awhile until it cools down and clears up some. This rain and cloud covering we're getting should help. There's just something to be said when I foul hooked 2 fish and got nothing to bite in the last 2 evenings down there. Good luck if you do go down there today.

Thanks for the advice. It did seem pretty warm as I was sloshing around in my shorts and wading boots. This may be off-topic, but what do you hear about the Clackamas? The numbers at Bonneville sure took a jump the last few days. marc c. portland, OR

Clackamas is pretty sweet right now. If you're up for a nice river hike, you should hit the middle river and find a nice unworked hole. I'll be heading down there for evening fishing, probably every night next week. So if you see a green Jeep between Faraday and Carver, that's probably me. Let me know how you do. Go with very small offerings to not spook the fish like a #1 or #2 black or gold spinners or #14 corky and 1/2" of yarn. The water should still be from 6' to 8' visability. I'd stay away from floats right now because the fish are in kind of a hiding mood and not suspending at any depths.

And be sure to take a 15-50 lb weight rod with you. They make great rods for the rafters. Now as for landing them, that's a little tricky.

Hmmm, sounds like a plan...and I'll keep an eye out for that green jeep. What about the area around the Barton bridge? Sorry to pester you but I'm still not that familiar with the layout of these rivers. marc c. portland, OR

I'll do that. Actually in my spare time I tie flies especially for rafters. I use a nice big 8x long Tarpon hook, barbless of course, and then tie on layers of chrome floss and paint the body to look just like a full Coors Light can. Fished dead drift on the surface, I find this pattern can't miss. marc c. portland, OR

Upstream from the park to Eagle Creek is alright, but does require a river walk. That stretch is especially good, because it suits a lot of styles of summer fishing and should always hold fish as does the rest of the river.

Leadhead: I tried the Sandy at Oxbow on Friday evening, I just waded out from the boat ramp and fished the run at the head of the big pool there. A camper said they were stacked up in there and I did see two nice ones jump. No bites though. Still pretty warm but the water was fairly clear. Sunday I hit the Clack early and tossed some spinners up from Barton park, didn't see a single fish though. Noone caught any that I could see. Low, clear, not very cold, but the game cop who checked my license assured me there were lots of fish in the river. I headed up to Dodge park on the Sandy around noon and tried the spinners there, no luck...the water was very warm and milky white. But I'll be hitting the Clack tonight and tomorrow after work; my buddy will be fly fishing with tiny glo bugs and I'd be surprised if he gets skunked. He's deadly with those things. I'll be using tiny corkies and see what happens. Marc C. portland, OR

I've never liked upriver from the boat launch at Oxbow. And I'll bet that guy was 100% right, there's fished stacked up ying yang on the Sandy, but getting them to bite has been rather difficult. You should really be trying from Cedar creek up to Marmot (with Marmot stretch probably being the best right now). I never got onto the Clack like I said I was, so I'm clueless for what's going on over there. I've just been hour or two here and there on the Sandy since I've been so busy with work that I haven't had much time to fish. I'm really just looking forward to our fall run to pound out a bunch of coho.
Took my little 9 year old bro to Lost Lake last weekend and he bonked a 5 pounder on a floating nightcrawler. 9 years old and he can rig his own gear, bank and release almost any type of fish, and the dang kid can even run a fillet knife almost as good as me. As soon as he's old enough, he'll probably be on here chatting with you all.
Anyways, tight lines and hope you catch some fish.
