Any body using INDIE set up with the spey rod out there ?
Know a few in Michigan that do and one guide that finds it deadly to obtain targeted drag free drifts into narrow slots.
Have not done it myself as I like to do the traditional swinging of flys. You know I am a traditional kind of fly fisher (wink, wink)

Yes, Hal, your having mentioned scents, shrimp, washing your hands in vanilla, spinner blades and other hardware additions to your lures, etc. we KNOW what an ethical 2-hander you are!! Besides, we all understand what high morals you attorneys share with us while chasing down all those ambulances. Gee, it must be nice to even have a fly named after you, and so well known, that guys even call it by its initials, and the ESL is also popularly known as "that lawyer fly".
Well, enough "jerking your chain", sorry Hal...
Anyway, I do use an indie method with my 2-hander, and love it for the purpose of obtaining longer drift-free drags. The extra length makes mending line a lot less work. For that purpose, it is hard to beat.

Gee whiz,if you want to do that type of fishing.Just get a Noodle rod of about 12' to 13' and have a go at it. You can use very light line and being that it is a noodle rod you can hardly tell the difference between that and a spey rod. And you can use two hands on it also.

Its called "Speydicator" fishing. LOL
Hey, I have not tried it yet I swear, I am still traditional spey swinging of flys, but a number of people are doing and say it is very effective, to get a natural deep drag free drift into the prime holding lies.
So I guess no ones does this technique in WA ?

There are times I'll use an indicator on a spey line, but only when I have to fish very close in water (almost high stick nymphing to be exact). Did get a new SA 'nymphing line' that I'm looking forward to using when the water flows get down into the 1200 cfs range (now 1807).
Best way I've found to attach the poly yarn (that's what I use is to run a 12"-18" shot of 15# maxima right off the end of my fly line (ala a second leader). This casts quite well and won't wrap around the main leader. Very extended 'dead drifts' before the whole thing goes into it's regular down/across swing in the bottom 1/3'rd of the drift. fae

Yes, there are guys who use them. Well, I wouldn't call them Indicators. These guys are using all out 4" long DINK FLOATS. Pretty much jig fishing at that point with a spey rod. Don't mind a true strike indicator, but when you're tossing out a dink with heavily weighted fly, might as well go with a noodle rod as Jim suggested.

Here in the east, I am very lucky, considering I can use a small-to-medium bead-head fly, and a small strike indicator (NOT a "dink float" or "ice-fishing bobber"). It makes an effective and deadly way to fish, and doesn't interfere with casting!! (well, not much, anyway!!)

Well I don't think I will INDIE fish with my spey rod just does not feel right for the purist I try to be. (wink, wink), Will use it on some smaller rivers when I just have to get down to the fish in narrow and short slots etc..
