Bow input
      #136734 - 09/22/04 03:48 PM

I'm in the market for a used bow, 3 options presented themselves recently. I'm looking for input pos and neg on each of the 3. First is a Hoyt magna-tec (200.00 two yrs old), second is a Darton Fury(150.00)and third is a Martin Phantom (350.00 and new).Which one do you think is the best buy? Any wisdom is appreciated!

Good input, Martin is local and for the money I hear they are a good deal. The magnatec is my buddys, shoots good for him. A friend just bought a martin phantom and really loves it. The Darton is a pawn shop deal, but it sure looks nice and comes with some extras. It might be a bit to big inthe draw for me though. Probably gonna rule that one out. My nature is to go with a good quality item no matter what I'm doing. I might get the Hoyt for pratice and then get the Martin. Then have a back up bow, sound like a good idea?

backup is important however I had a limb break while I was gone for a week hunting...broke practicing thank goodness...called Martin from the little post office near where I was hunting and they had the new limb there the next day! Back up was used only one day.

If you're serious about getting broken stuff replaced and don't mind getting it next day from the manufacturer, then i'll take the outskirts of wherever. That's what I've heard bout their customer service. Anyone hear something to the contrary...That's the kind of feedback i'm looking for. Gonna get abow.....just a matter of which one. Night all!

A little late on this topic but why did you rule out Mathews. its a few bucks more than the prices you were posting but a good shooting bow will make you a happy bow hunter. Also ebay has used and new bows fully set up for about 50% less than originally ivested

My current bows are the onieda strike eagle and a darton 50 mxI use as back up. I personally like to shoot fingers, so the longer limbed bows don't string pinch as much. My bows are ancient and dusty!! From the numbers I have seen from newer mathews I would probably go that route and learn to shoot a release... naw I really like the convience of finger shooting.

I did fingers for the first year then switched to release. The release took some getting use to but alot more consistant than fingers.
