They might be talking about Humboldt squid. I've seen posts about them on ifish. They can be 6ft.+ and are very aggressive. If you run into a bunch of them, don't fall overboard! Here's a link, lotsa links on Google.

I've heard of stuff from Humboldt County that was pretty powerful but I didn't know they were talking about Squid.

I guess we know what those folks at DFW have been smokin'! Ain't it cool the way we put our heads together & solved this little mystery? This is probably why Al Gore invented the internet.

Fishing bud from Oregon told me last week about some giant squid species that when they congregate if you were to go overboard it would be kiss you arse goodbye...those critters would peck you to death...literally.

Oh boy! Just got an email from RJ. Sounds like the salty dogs (AKA tuna freaks) have been in the thick of it the last few days. 3 acres of the giant Humboldt squid and plenty of tuna too! Here he is (right) with Wak and yesterdays catch. A total of 5 squid and 38 tuna.

Some people do I guess? The way to prepare is to cut the body meat in strips, peel off the skin and tenderize the heck out of it. Then use it in any squid/calamari recipe.

Lots of very good recipes:

Grilled Calamari
Squid Vicious
Crunchy Cornmeal-Fried Squid
Squid Luau

Trick is not to overcook it. Eating overcooked squid is like chewing on a giant rubber band. Great workout of those jaw muscles though.
