5th Chantrelle Species
      #146832 - 11/14/04 08:05 PM

Added a 5th chantrelle species to my collection this year....one that I've always overlooked. It's called the Funnel or Winter Chantrelle. Brownish cap, gills and stem. Hollow stem. Gills are the same as chantrelles. Not as meaty or tasty but there are literally thousands of the things where I collect.

Finding a lot of white and orange hedgehogs also. These are the ones that look like a regular gilled shroom from the top but have gills that are like little teeth. Just as good as orange chantrelles in my book. One word of caution don't eat one raw....they are distinctly peppery until cooked .....peppery taste goes
away.

Also finding quite a few Mount Baker Waxy Caps.....look good and smell like sweet almonds....book says they are edible but there is some doubt as to how choice they are. I may brave a couple.
