had a few buddies fishing this past week and it seems like the early fish are showing in ok numbers. One guy went 5 fish landed in 2 days fishing. The fish are scattered through out the entire river. Water color has been ok overall, water level has been a little high but if the cold weather comes , this should help keep the river in good fishing conditions a little longer.

Nope, no fish in the Vedder...none at all. Don't bother going.
If you do, say Hi to my Dad.

Dunno - we didn't go. Dad's hip was really hurting him and neither of us are into competition fishing, crowds, standing around a fire for hours before we can fish just so you get a good spot... some verbal reports I got were that the water was pretty turbid as there was almost 1.5" in the 36 hours leading up to it. Slept in, talked over coffee, went to my sisters for a HUGE Boxing Day dinner. Went out the next day - got two to hand(or almost..), neither as big as the one Dad got. All Nates.

boxing day derby results where average compared to the last few years. It was won by a fish slightly under 13lbs. There where a few less anglers entered, just over 300.Fishing remains average for this time of year. There are fishing being caught every day and the water is dropping quickly and very clear now with this cold snap. Definitely worth the effort to get out there if you can manage the cold weather.

I can manage the cold, my problem is getting there from here. If the weather is like that picture its going to be warm for a winter steelheader like I. LOL Thanks for the report on the derby.

Yeah it really doesn't get cold out here very often. Maybe 32F or 0C give or take a few, for a few dozen days at most, and that's in the shadows. Every once in a while, we get a winter that's a little more attention getting, but nothing like out your way. The coldest I've ever been (in the Fraser Valley)was back in 81 or 82 and it dipped to -18C for a week or so. Lots of snow, lots of ice, and for that area, really cold. I was living about 5 miles from the lower Vedder that yr and rode my motocross bike over the fields/roads to get to the river. Tried to ride over it. There's a real good reason they use big spiked tires for ice-racing.
