So how is this progressing are the new spey rods coming out now adapting these ?
Will our lives be simpler and less expensive finding the correct spey line to match with the rods and will it be only for new rods or include the present models also ?
Thinks have been silent in the press at least on this subject.

Good question; no clue. Less expensive ... surely you've got to be kidding?

Yes less expensive and risky is better for everyone!

I do not believe the new spey line standards will make anyone's matching of a spey rod/line any less of a crap shoot because for the most part they do not tell you what you need to know which is the head weight and length. Again, the only sure way for a person to get a good fit with spey tackle is a test drive.

Probably right, would have to be international standards also not just US. Now to get more fly shops to stock more spey models and allow on water test drives. I have to bend the arm of my fly shop owner just to get have him stock spey rods again, now he has none, but indicated he would get some of the St Croixs (a standard vendor of his for single handers) but I am not sure if he will allow me to test it on the water with out a committment to buy it.
Such is life in the spey less fly shop land I inhabit.

Half of the fun in buying a good new rod is finding the right combination of line and leader to match it for your intended purpose. I have many rods, even conventional fly rods, that have 2 different lines, depending on the fishing I am doing. They bring out the most in the respective rod.
So, "qwitcherbellyachin" and enjoy your rod as a challenge, not as a "fixed recipe" for the masses. God didn't build us all with the same muscles, build, timing and reflexes - and when I see some cute "chicky" walking down the street in tight short-shorts, I can only say, "Thank you for your wisdom, Lord"!

What ever happened to the good old AFTMA fly line size standards we grew up with back in th 60s and 70s ?
Here is how I now envision spey line standards, a long long road with no soon end in site !

I have been throwing long rods for over 10 yrs now. I still make my own lines. i have gotten hold of the so called universal lines( wind cutters, acceleraters, etc, etc) we will never see a standardized system till all the rod manufactors make standard rods like they do with single handed rods. Just like the rod manufators and the line manufactors, they all have thier own idea of what a rod or a line should be. An 8wt by ones idea isn't 8wt by some one else. especially when it comes to traditonal or euorpean actions.i use sage and t&t. Their actions are pretty close to each other. They throw the best in my opinion! hope this all makes sense!

It makes perfect sense! I don't even want to immagine the number of hundred's of dollars I've spent on fly lines over the years. And that doesn't even consider the number of reels/extra spools for same.
And welcome to the 'spey/fly nut house!'
Darn, forgot to ask: I've seen the "team Jackson Baldwin" signiture note several times; what's the story behind it?
