I recently completed an IST1025 Steelhead Rod, everything I have to say about Rainshadow Blanks is good, straight, light, sensitive, and gorgeous.
If anyone has second thoughts about using these blanks, you definitely should go for it.

My 5th Rainshadow rod is waiting to get built. I really enjoy fishing with them. I own 2-1141s, 1-1143s, 10' 5wt, and building a 9 1/2' 7wt. Great product!

I just picked up an 1141 and an 1143... in the process of building as we speak. The Blanks are really nice looking. I dont know about the quality yet but I have a sneaking suspicion that they are A-OK...
The icing on the cake is that they are made locally... Sequim... American made baby!
Nice looking wrap Nivtup... I got to learn how to do that...

I can not say enough good things about rainshadow products. another plus is their customer service, top notch, way above the rest that is for sure. I have not built on a rainshadow blank I have not liked, yet. Their blanks are light, very straight, sensitive and very strong. If they keep on building a great blank, that makes my choices easy.
thanks

i currently own a 1025 and a 1143 that were completely built at Rainshadow, both rods are superb and Rainshadow is the best rod i've ever owned, bought them directly off Bill Batson himself, great guy to work with and great staff, better than loomis all the way and a lot more economical on the fisherman's pocket book.

brewer had an 1141 RS snap on me couple months back and the Odella guy dan, backed it, which was cool. he even let brewer replace it with a 1143. now brewer has a buddy from yakima that has had both his 1141 and 1143 snap. dan from Odella has replaced the rods. which is cool. talked with kelly, and kelly said the 1143RS busted again landing a 18lb king at barrier dam this weekend. kelly is not rough on his rods or is not exessive with his pressure he puts on fish. has anyone here, had similar breakage problems with their RS? now keep in mind these are ordella brand rods that RS supplys the blanks for.

You would think that Odella would be getting the same quality blanks as anyone else. I have heard nothing but good stuff about RS rods but I've never used one. I personnaly have too many Loomis rods to be able to replace them with new stuff.
That wrap job is just plain beautiful, on any blank.

yea th, it is very strange. kelly says he's not real impressed with his experience with them, RS. mu brother has been using his 1143RS a year now and has had zero problems. kelly has a loomis 1024 i beleive that has been very reliable. looks like he'll be going back to loomis.

Are these rods 1st, or seconds? I have all first and haven't had a problem yet with any of them. One of my 1143 rods landed a 44lb, and 38lb king in a matter of 2 hours. Maybe operator error! Where were the rods breaking at Brewer? Let me know, my uncle builds nothing but RS,, Clay's Custom Rods.

em, brewer can rule out operater error here. kelly fights his fish no different than any else here. am sure were he has popped his other rods at. this recent snap happened further up the tip section. cause he was saying he was going to fix it himself. but he said he was done with RS. he lives in yakima and said it was just to time consuming to send it back to ordella and be without the rod lets say 4 to 6 weeks or so. when brewer popped his 1141 it snapped just above the ferril on the tip section.

Rods Break
All rods break.
Do Rainshadow Rods break? Yes. Loomis, Lami, Sage, Calstar, Ugly Stick, Penn, Allstar? Yes, Yes, Yes.
Why? There are several reasons.
Rarely do reputable manufacturers let a "bad" blank out the door.
If a blank is bad, you will most likely break it right away.
Why do rods break? Overlining / overloading - High Sticking - Unseen Damage - Improprer thread tension during build up - and the number one reason, Car Doors
Performance blanks are sensitive to damage, this damage may not be visible damage, a sharp impact; like a weight hitting the rod, setting the hook under a branch, or whatever, causes damage to the graphite fiber, often going un-noticed or undetectable. Most sharp impact damage eventually causes failure.
To much thread tension will cause a localized stress on the blank, these failures are usually very clean, right at the end of a wrap. Improper guide foot prep can cause damage, but is not nearly as frequent a problem as a car door.
Todays quality rods are race horses, handle them with care, they perform. Mis-treat them and they breakdown.
BTW I have never broke a Rainshadow, nor have I ever had a Rainshadow I have built break as far as I know, I am not a mass producer, but I have more than tenteen out there in action.
BTW Brewer I forgot man

talked with kelly, he said all 3 snaps occured very close to the ferril. both sides. brewer just finds it odd that he has had 3 snaps. all fighting fish too. another clue he said was the snaps were all very clean. no spiraling at all. strange huh?

Brewer tell you buddy that he should go back to fishing with the yella rods, cause the RS are too high tech for him! ha ha just kidding Brew. I have only heard of 1 rod breaking, my uncle broke my aunt 8wt, while horsing in a big chum. We noticed upon futher inspection, that it looked like some dumbell eyes had hit the rod to cause it to weaken.

brewer was out on the washougal this morning, finally hit a fish! brewer set back to hear a crack, the rod popped! came back and gouged me in the ear. sled down the line. brewer was free spooling through the tailout. during the hookset and snap, a backlash developed. brewer was able to fight the fish till it came to the backlash part and snapped off! lost the broken end and the fish taboot.... oh and a bloody ear. not a good morning. the snap occured between the first eye and the second eye.
