For the fun of it I'd use a floating or shallow diving plug. Cast and whack. Make sure you got a real heavy shock tippet in front of your plug as it sounds like that plug's gonna get abused.

Chris I've used a strip of white t-shirt lashed to a hook when I've run out of regular gear.

use to fish the seabass in the PA harbor off the log booms as a kid. Good way to spend the afternoon catching bass.. We used the 1/4 oz white feather jigs, but minnow rigs worked best.

My favorite tactic for lings is whole herring fished about 10 ft off bottom.. lings will come up to it but the rockfish won't . If you start hittin rockfish just raise it another 5 ft. We would run several rigs with jigs for the rockfish and one ling rig. Another plus is picking up the occasion king.

A Spring Ling Tilla does sound damn inviting! Shall we start one guys, could be lots of fun, could get more kids and wifes in on this one, lots of bottomfish to be had by all! Would be great Tilla for another Deep Fry! MMMMM, fresh fried ling, making me hungry!

10oz cannon ball with 3 3" shad bodies on 6/0 stainless. Its hard to beat 2 or 3 at a time.On the surface or 240' down its all good.I get the bass out of the way to work on cabs and lings.Which one is your favorite to eat,i like greenies and coppers.

live flounder work excellent on 5/0 -6/0 red hooks tied like a big mooching rig.......we kill'em off of shilshoal like that........when your flounder really starts to fight on the end of your line .......hold on cause something big is about to eat it
