Any word out there on the Umpqua in the past couple of days? Thinking of taking the drift boat down there this weekend. I was down last Monday and it was still pretty muddy (south and main fork). Any info will definitely be much appreciated

Buzz up the 'blue herron' fly shop. If it moves on the Umpqua HE KNOWS!!

Yeah, Joe at the Blue Heron definatley knows the river. He's gonna be most help with stuff on the north though. I've been told by locals that the fish going into the south fork are usually hammered pretty good before they get out of the main stem, esp around Canyonville. Call the USFS ranger station in Tiller and they ought to be able to give you a good idea about current water clarity on the south. Of course, I geuss since you're posiing this on the fly fishing portion of the website, you might be interested in the fly only section, wich is on the North Umpqua, and is some really pretty country to fish, although the winters are hard to get. Fish low, black skunk.

Oops. You hadn't posted that in the fly fishing section after all. Oh well, it's still a gorgeous river. North, south, mainstem, whatever. Hope you have fun, consider driving up the south fork road past Jackson Creek a ways. You can't fish there, but it's real pretty.

Only thing that makes me go "gurrrr" is them closing up the Susan Creek Campground during the winter. This is one of the most prestine places you could ever 'pitch a tent.'

Yeah that's a good one. Wright Creek Bridge is a nice spot, off highway side of river. I'll be in that country in April and will be frothing the water for sure. On the off chance I have good fish Karma.

Know the name, but drawing a mental blank on it's location. Only other one I really know is "Whistler's Bend" up river from Roseburg about mile post 13.

The South Fork, North Fork and the Main are all super low and clear. We need rain to get the fish up. I drifted the main from James Wood to Osprey last week. Fish are few and far between. The North is too low to drift in some spots. Pray for rain!

Same thing 'down here!' All the rivers are running low, clear and still dropping. Water temp is again become a factor putting already spookie fish 'off the bite.'

At this point we should have had several thousand winter runs over gold rae's fish counter ... not even 1,200 as of a few days ago. River is now at 800 cfs out of Warm Springs .. and I gather they're going to drop it further.

Yuck!

FAE, gonna be in Prospect and environs early April. Thinking of hiring a guide Joe told me about for the N Umpqua. Maybe looking at fishing some near Shady Cove also. Can't wait. Looks like I might be living at Steamboat this summer too. Hot damn.

"Living at Steamboat????" I'd die and go to heaven!! Early april should be very good fishing .. even if the water levels stay low. If you do want a guided trip call (or e mail me for his numbe) Dave Roberts. Best!!! guide on the upper river and just a ball to spend a day with.

Mainly uses fly rods (year round) and he really knows how to put people over fish. Out with Bob (actually DRY FLY FISHING) for late summer runs and trout) on Sunday and had a ball. We were using 3 and 5wt fly rods, dry flys and all.

No summer runs but casting over/hooking cutt's, and trout was a total hoot. When your plans solidify, let me know!!
