Found some this afternoon. Both whites and yellows. Limited quantity, good quality, though. The rain a week ago must have started them growing. Quantity won't improve until we get more rain.

Chantrelles are normally a yellow color and grow with a V appearance, but DO NOT EAT if you don't have a positive identification. There are some that a rookie could mistake for a chantrelle.

Found quite a few chanterelles, today. The recent rains are bringing them out. Left lots of buttons in the woods. Looks like it might be a good season, inspite of the hot, dry summer.
LZ, we've found chanterelles from sea level to the summit of Snoqualmie Pass. Look in mature forests. Most of the places we find mushrooms are logged within a couple of years. If you do a search for mushrooms, you'll find a number of sites with pictures and info to help with identification. There are a couple species of inedible mushrooms growing around here that resemble the yellow chanterelle.

Friend and I each picked grocery bag full of yellow chanterelles this afternoon. Plenty of them out there, but many are past prime. Gotta be a little selective. Didn't see any whites. Hunters should carry two plastic bags in their jackets, or packs, this weekend...one for the liver, and the other for chanterelles. With hunting seasons opening up, it's a good idea to wear some hunter orange, even if you're just hunting mushrooms.

Nice afternoon of finding orange and yellow chantrelles. Plus a few Matsutakes. Seems like every mushroom in the book is popping up this year.

Picked a bag o' yellows, today. Took a couple of hours as many of the chanterelles were too far gone. We were picking at 1300 to 1400 ft elevation, and found the best quality in more open areas. In the heavy moss areas the mushrooms were seriously past prime, often slimey and moldy. Found the first chanterelles over three months ago; it's been a good season.

Did the same today.....went down low for a few hedgehogs and matsutakes then went up higher to try and find some yellow chantelles. Took a bit but we gathered enough for a couple meals....had to sort thru the ones past their prime. Note you can still make use of those if you trim the larger ones down to the meatier stem...you can get a nice chunk of good shroom still.
Got one humongous prime Matsutake when we took our before dark walk out to the river viewpoint. One of those is a meal.

Checked a couple low elevation orange chantrelle spots today on a hunch. Weathers been abnormally mild this winter. Got a nice grocery sack full!    Lamb chops and couscous covered in sauteed chantrelles! Mmmmmmmm

Sounds like a great dinner. Hope you had a bottle, box, or barrel of fine wine to go with those late harvest chanterelles. Weather permitting, I'm planning on checking out some mid-elevation areas, tomorrow. We've had several sub-freezing mornings around here; might be slim pickings.

Nice Shiraz to go with the meal. There were fairly fresh ones amongst all of the ruined ones......one patch was at about 500 feet elevation the other near sea level. All of the ones I found were really large.

Found half grocery bag of yellows, today. On the good-better-best scale, these were all good. Picked at the 1200 ft. level. Very few mushrooms left of any type where we were picking.

Go into the Forest Floor album. Then see 42 and 43, I recall - captioned Chanterelle.
Click to go to slideshow view. But then again, in tiny blue text that says "original" view, cick that little text to blow the photo size huge.
See the ridges under the funnel shape Chanterelle? No distinct knife-like gills. That's what make Chanterelle stand out. Irregular coral-like ridges is what to look for. Of Chanterelles, consider avoiding the ones with the flaky flappy things on top almost as if the upper surface looked disintegrating. Supposedly okay, but not recommended by some sources. The other orange chanterelles are great.
