How do you keep the earwigs from getting into your hummingbird feeders?

I never have earwigs. I think all my tree frogs, who are busy keeping me awake every night eat the creepy crawly things. The frogs are here by the thousands right now.
Encouraging frogs, garter snakes, swallows, bats and birds in general to live here keeps me from having a lot of creepy crawlies.
I want some chickens for my veggie garden, but I'm having a hard time convincing Caveman.

we have a terrible earwig population up here in Sequim, but I get the perimeter of the house and shop sprayed each spring , and don't have a problem with'em there. I hang the feeders on the porches, so the crawlies don't bother me. (Just watch it though , if you open the tool shed or the tractor barn!!)

WooHoo!!! Hung the feeder out last Friday, just before we headed to Hood Canal. Saw my first Hummer this Morn. Spring is here!!! Yeah, I fished with Mike the first time last fall down at the LaPush Bubble. We had a great time at the Geoduck derby, and I'm are going with Brian on the Chehalis next Thurs. I do enjoy his stories. I think he knows EVERYBODY in South Dakota.

Cleaned up my feeder and made up some brew, put it out and withing a day my first hummingbird showed up. A big ol one with a red chest. He's been around for about a week now. Does it pay to put more feeders out to attract more birds??? How long should I leave the mixture out before changing it?

I don't usually start putting out more feeders until I start seeing Hummer Wars. I usually have 4 feeders out for a while in the early part of summer. This time of year, if they don't drink it all down, it will last for a week or more if it's not in direct sun. If it starts turning cloudy, dump, rinse, and re-fill. Fermentation isn't as good for them as it is for us.

I've had hummer wars since the day after I put the first feeder out, 18 days ago. We've had up to six feeding at one time at the two 4 station feeders.

We have a small group of birds that call on my deck for some nectar, really cool to sit and watch...snapped a pic of one, they sure get really pissed at each other for coming around the feeder when ones already there.....
