Have been thinking about giving surf fishing a try (probably at Ocean City). Is there a good "How to" source available anywhere.

A long spinning rod setup works best. 10 or 12 pd line. Tie your mainline to a 3 way swivel. Get some good snelled baitholder hooks in size 2 and put one on the swivel. Add a dropper leader a foot or 2 long attached to a 2 to 3 ounce pyramid sinker. Use sandshrimp for bait. Fish the last bit of outgoing tide thru slack and the first hour or so of incoming. Look for tide rips that occur where there's a change in bottom contours. Be patient and be willing to move move up and down the shoreline a bit. Moving a 100 feet will turn a non-bite to a perch-athon. Watch out for sneaky waves. Luck!

In the old days, we used to use clam necks or zippers for bait. They are so tough that they stay on the hook forever.

Well, well...Maltby is posting again. Clams are a great bait. Squid is also really good because it is firm and they are fun to catch. On another subject, I think if you have the time to make posts, you have the time for hitting the greens! Goldmountain is one of the best public courses around.

Everyone should get out and catch some squid!
