Started buying rigging for halibut...
      #178111 - 03/26/05 05:48 PM

I bought a little bit of stuff today. I figured I might as well be productive with the nice weather we were having.

4 2lb sinkers
4 1lb sinkers
4 6oz lead heads
1 pack of 6 inch Berkley Glow grubs
6 6x12 spreaders

I think I can get by with this and some bait after I tie my leaders. Then, I can catch some . Well, I may have to buy some rope for lassos and maybe a harpoon and/or gaff.

Harpoon AND gaff, and why didn't you buy some big B2 squid? Big bait-big fish!

Caveman is SO pouting that he can't fish butts this year.

You'll just have to catch his share too Jim.

don't tie off your harpoon rope to your boat. like my friend did and lost a barn door after he had harpooned it and when the line came tight the fish won.I am sure the fish went to the bottom and became crab bate. Now he is set up like I tried to tell him. I just use 3 of those shrimp bouys that I don't use any more because of our $hitty season we get on the canal. THe bouys work great

Bill exact opposite story here lol, gramps had a barndoor at 3136 one year, out boat was sittin right next to his, guesstimated the fish at around 150 to 180 and harpooned it, it took the big bumper buoy (biggest one we could buy)under like it was shot outta a rocket and we never saw it again! Since then we've tied them to the cleat, i guess its just shiat luck sometimes lol!!! Jim, pic up some 3lbers. thats all i run, also i run 9/0 and 10/0 gami octopus hooks, run the 10/0 up top and 9/0 on the bottom, will send u a pm tommorow with a lil something for ur halibut knowledge, a lil trick hehehehehe!!!

Chris did you unhook the fish before harpooning? Jim can use his columbia anchor bouy.

Well actually, he was using 50lb. mono when he caught it, when it was harpooned it busted the line, fish took the bouy down, probably imploded it and never saw it again, but yes, i would use the columbia river bouy for them, but never again will i use a bumper on a barndoor!!!
