Mama is back in the driveway again, for the third year in a row. Last year, she raised two clutch's, and the third nest got raided. She is on her first nest this year.
She was out getting some breakfast.
Back on the Job.
I have a 10 x zoom, so was able to get the photos without getting so close as to disturb her.

I've been gone since Thursday, but she is still setting this afternoon. They have got to be hatching any day now. When they do, I will try to get photos of the little ones. They don't stick around too long. Kinda hit the ground a runnin'. About two days old, and the have their adult colors, only just little guys running around like a bunch of fleas. Pretty funny!!

Two were hatched this morning, and another this afternoon. One to go. Mama and daddy are very nervous. I don't know if I will get photos or not. I won't disturb them just for pictures.

The forth one musta hatched late last night or very early today. She was still setting when I went to town about 10:00 and all of them, (Mama, Daddy and 4 little ones) were gone by the time I got home about noon. They usually don't go too far, but I don't see'em out there anywhere. There is a horse pasture next door, and I think they probably ran over there. They will be back in a month or so, to start over again. I gotta get some driveway work done soon, or I'll have to wait again.

Yeah, they always seem to nest right in the gravel driveway around here. Just push the rocks around a little, throw in a couple of sticks and call it good. No down or nothing. I guess it's camo, because you wouldn't see it if you didn't see mama doing the dying bird thing, and start looking real hard before you step on them. I always put posts and yellow tape around the nests so someone doesn't drive or walk on them. They are never in the nest more than 1 day max after the last one hatches. Like I said, they hit the ground runnin'!!! I did see them late yesterday in the horse pasture. All 4 survived the first day, so looks good!

SHE'S BACK!!!!!
guess the driveway work will have to wait. Oh Darn!!
All the first four are flying now, so she must be ready for round two.
Noticed today that she was doing the "wounded bird act" again. A little searching found the nest, with two eggs in it. (As I trudge out to the barn to get the posts so I can put up a "fence", so she doesn't get driven on.)
