Spirit Lake new
      #186820 - 05/16/05 09:51 AM

I was reading in the paper that Spirit Lake trout are making quite a comeback, a biologist has been studying the lake as he says its "Full of thousands of 4-5 lb Rainbows" The I saw a video on the news last night on the same subject and it showed the bio releasing a very hefty Rainbow. In the article the bio said that he thinks that as the lake matures the average size of the trout will diminish as there won't be enough feed to support a large population of large trout. The bad news is the lake is closed to fishing . Hopefully someday soon they'll open it before these big fish die of old age.

Also it was mentioned that since the lake was super hot after the erruption that all the trout that were in there previously would have been killed, that these trout that are in there now are probably off spring of a plant that was made by persons unknown.

Anyone know how far the lake is from the nearest road?

About .69 miles as the crow flies from Windy Ridge off NF-99. About .89 miles from Smith Creek also on NF-99. About 1.7 miles from 504.
