Weekend Trout Fishing
      #188269 - 05/22/05 07:03 PM Attachment (0 downloads)

Greetings, fellow Steelheader.netters. Greg and I broke out of the Salmon/Steelhead mold this weekend. We went on a "civilized"camping trip(trailer, shower, indoor plumbing, oven, stove, electricity, etc.) and stayed at a Thousand Trails near the Barrier Dam. There was a couple of small lakes at the campsite that were freshly stocked with Donaldson Trout. So, we broke out the poles and lures and...BAM! The trout loved them! Greg did better than I did on the first day as far as how many fish caught, BUT....well, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. Later, we spend a few hours on the Cowlitz fishing near the dam, no luck, naturally. We then went to the hatchery and got to see an awesome sight: A couple hundred fish in a fish trap. They were jumping all over the place trying to get out, slamming into the walls. Boy, howdy, they can really jump high! There were some HUGE salmon in the tank, too! Most of them were 15-20 lbs, according to Greg. There were also some monsters that he said were 35-40 lbs. Watching the fish was more fun than the fishing we did. Greg did some more trout fishing on Sat. and today. He just couldn't stand it that I caught the biggest fish Friday. ) It was pretty cool actually fishing and catching something and not have to sit/stand on a bank all day and wait...and wait....and wait...for nothing.
