I thought the Airflo Skagit heads cast pretty nice. They are not available as yet but are in production according to Rajeffs so I'm hoping it is soon. They will cost $75.00 including a 200grn Custom Cut Tip but running line is not included. They are loop on both ends.

Thanks for the info I am admittedly behind the curve on spey gear.. Someday i will get my hands on one of those nice sticks/lines when I visit a clinic. Until then I don't see $800 flying out of my pocket on a test run. Good ole single hander till I get off my lazy butt to build a rod I won't be happy with.

Marty a MKS 13'6"-7/8 will not cost you $800.00. You can get one for under $600.00 and they are "sweet" sticks. That being said there are some pretty nice rods around for much less. Some to look at are the 12'6"-8wt TFO with a 7/8 Delta ($250.00), CND Expert 1308 with a 6/7 or 7/8 Delta ($325.00), or the Echo 13'-7/8 ($270.00) that will be out soon.

H2H I am allergic to the seattle traffic so wont be headed there anytime soon. Will have to just scratch my itch with dry flies and trout for a bit more.

Beat me, WHIP ME ... the first time in close to 20 years I actually took out "a loan" to buy the new .. new one. (My CPA talking here.)
God, having to make a 'payment' every month is a pain in the butt.

I might cost more, a LOT more to get rid of Fred's CPA then to buy several rods.

Actually, guy (Gary) if VERY GOOD. Over the years he's saved me thousands and thousands in my 'tax bills.' Worth every penny of the $300/yr I pay him.
"They will cost $75.00 including a 200grn Custom Cut Tip but running line is not included. " Mike, this sounds a tad on the 'pricie side' as the RIO line runs about/same pricie side. The RIO line is 'head' and running line. But you do (rod specific) have to buy a 'compensator;' set of these could set you back up an additional 5-10 bucks each. Also you have to 'provide' the sinking tips.
Will admit, cast one of these things on a Sage 7141 at the Sandy 'Clave (grass leader) and was VERY IMPRESSED at how easily this thing would shoot out 100' of head/line/running line.

Crap! Brian, forgot to ask: If you wanted to 'build your own,' what do you think a 'home made' one would run?

Sheesh! Now you tell me!!! What was the pricing on them? One person I talked to (actually 'spey certified') preferred them to the RIO's.

To much Single Malt?
Heard a rumor about the Red Head driving new motor home.
To build a Skagit head complete under $25.00, the most expensive thing is the running line.

Brian,
Would you consider 'building' me one for 9wt rods?
Fred
"Heard a rumor about the Red Head driving new motor home."
Ah yes ..... her first 'sit' behind the wheel of the 'new-new' one. Joan's 'version' of the facts have been altered to suit her needs ....
Took her about 50 yards to 'met the tree' ... and just short of $6,000 in damage. The next conversation went to the effect: "why didn't you tell me we were too close to the tree?" My answer was" What part of STOP!!!!!!!!!!! didn't you understand?" "But you weren't clear on what you said." "You've GOT to be kidding??" Etc., and etc.
Fun part was I handed her my cell phone so she could call USAA and get the claim started. "No YOU call them and tell them about 'OUR' accident." "Our??? Accident???"
At that point I dialed the number and handed her the phone and shut up (what the hell, I was already 'behind the curve.' No point in making it worse ... for me ... or her.
